Getting back in the game!

I tried to search to no avail. I used to have an '08 Acess Cab Off-Road, and was on here a lot. Sold it, build a '74 Crew cab ford with superfuty axles, coilovers, custom suspension, a cummins and a 6spd.

Getting back in the Toyota game, and while poking around I had a couple questions arise that Im unable to answer.

3rd Gen Trucks:

1) Was there a prerunner trim offered, or simply a 2wd?
2) If there was, did it come with the selectable rear locker like earlier generations?
3) Manual trannies...what trims/engine combos were they offered in?

Looking to start a long travel build, and want to avoid a 4wd if possible. But then also looking to see if its possible to find a manual tranny, access cab, 2wd/prerunner...or if my only option may be a say a crew cab truck.

Open to hear any and all details you guys can share on what options are offered on what trims, or where I can look to source that info!

 

Welcome back. Holy cow! Going from that monster Ford into a Tacoma is like squeezing 10 lbs of crap into a 5 lbs sack! But seeing how you already made the transition one way you should be fine going back into a Tacoma.

Nice looking old Ford, they were great trucks.

The 2wd access cab was offered with a V6 6 speed manual in both the Sport and Off Road trims.
In 2016/17 a 4 cylinder 5 speed was offered in the SR trim too.

I imagine a 2wd will be pretty tough to find in Maine - get searching and do a fly in - drive home road trip.

Drove my Ford out to Arizona in February, and back a few months later....and I'm itching for Long Travel now (lived in California in the 2000's and got bit by the prerunner bug then). Figure now is the time, and searching out a 2wd will save me on CV shaft costs, along with overall price, since 2wd's aren't favored here. Figure I have a big truck to do big truck things...and cant hurt to have an explorering truck to go fast and have fun with

Do you know if any 2wd's came with the V6 and manual tranny?

New 2024 Prerunner (auto only) will be 2WD, but only has a 4 cyl. If you want V6 power, you will need to find a 2016-2023 Tacoma. Manual 2WD V6 access cab Tacomas are tough to find new or used.
