My power steering is making noise - I don't know how to diagnose the noise I just ass-u-me it's the pump - 2008 2.7 Tacoma. I'm looking at OEM - I've used McGeorge B 4

    Others are a little less

Would it be worth the time and effort to try a flush B 4 changing the pump ?

Any reply information - suggestions - links etc appreciated. Installation instructions - videos ? Thanks.

It can’t hurt to try a flush, it’s really easy.
You should flush a system before you install a new pump anyways.
    Most people don’t though…..

You would probably be ok with a reman unit.
But new OE is always better.
I don’t know about new aftermarket, half the time “new” aftermarket stuff doesn’t fit right and you have to fight it to get it to work right.

At least with a reman, you know it will fit.
Which is 50% of the problem.

Thanks for the reply - "It can’t hurt to try a flush" sounds like a good thing to try - the links I gave were for new OEM - I have not investigated reman - do you have experience with reman pumps ? Any links ? Thanks.

No experience with reman pumps on a Tacoma.
I went to RockAuto and typed in the part number in the link you posted.
A steering pump is one of the few thing I would be ok with going reman.
It’s not really hard to change. The steering rack on the other hand, I’m going OE.

That is exactly the reman I was referring to.
I have to be honest, I’m bad to “save a dollar” when I can.
And I’d be doing the install myself. So, should it not last, I’m just out my labor.
And I think the Cardone will be fine.
Remember, you have a $45 core on that price too.

I always try to give the best advice.
And the best advice is go New OE.
But that’s more expensive. I guess it comes down toy whether you wan5 a to save a few dollars and deal with returning the core?

Thanks - there are 2 Cardon's - I'll have to find out the difference and how much it is to return/ship the core. I have 155K and I changed PSF at OCI but never did a flush - wonder when or if others have had to replace there pump. Thank again.

I think one is new, the other is a reman.
I’m quite sure someone has replaced theirs.
Have you done a search to see?

Thanks everyone - checked it out Saturday - turned out to be a crack in the return pipe - cut it out and connected it with hose and clamps. It was a slow leak so it wasn't obvious - good thing it wasn't on the supply side - high pressure would make fix harder if not impossible. I'd post a picture or 2 if I knew how - if someone is interested send me a link and or instructions.
