What would you replace your tacoma with? All gen open discussion

the Rav4 based Stout ticks a lot of boxes for me if the rumours are more or less correct

 

I have multiple cars, but if we are just saying would I replace it with anything, maybe the new Land Cruiser when it comes out in the US. Depending on how it looks.

The down side is reliability, my old 335i was the worst car I have ever owned due to the never ending problems, the M3 has never left me stranded even though it’s been supercharged for 50k miles now

 

Right now the Tacoma is the perfect fit for what I want.

But hypothetically in the future: If the Toyota Stout looks like this (the shape, not those colors), has a manual transmission, and performs well enough "off road" (minimum maintenance roads to campsites and hiking trails) I think it would fit the bill. I definitely don't really need a full size truck, and even the mid size is bigger than I need for 90% of my use. I mostly drive to and from work in it. But I like having the versatility to get to remote camping/hiking spots and haul sheets of plywood every so often.

Next gen 4runner if they bring back the manual would also be a consideration, and I'd just get a utility trailer for the times I would have needed a bed.

 

I have a 1996 that I will never replace. If I were going to replace my 2018, it would probably be a 4th Gen. But that's not currently in the cards until I get a better look at the 4th Gen.

 

Easy peasy. Another Tacoma.

Was going to consider a 4th gen in a couple years, but the demise of the Access Cab with functioning doors will probably be a deal breaker for me.
My 2012 has only 70k or so miles on it, so it's no rush for anything.

The Stout could be cool. Especially if it's boxy and actually retro looking. I'm a big fan of the Maverick and a Toyota made competitor would be a good option. Though... I'm hoping to keep my truck for at least another 15 years. Who knows what will be on the market by then.

As a Toyota fan boy, either a new (24) Tacoma, or a Tundra, but happy with my 2016 Taco!!!

 

My current Tacoma is a 3rd vehicle for us. It was the primary vehicle for my wife and I from 2007-2016. Love the truck but we reached the point where we needed more towing and cargo capacity, and interior room didn't hurt. I bought a used 2014 F150 crew cab 4X4. We added a 2020 Explorer in 2022.

At this point I still drive the Tacoma more days than the Ford, but usually only within a 100 mile radius. The big truck is used for pulling the trailers and when I need the room. My long-term plan was to upgrade the F150 in 2024 when it is 10 years old and still keep the Tacoma.

I'm waiting on more info in the 4th gen Tacoma. I can make a smaller cab work, but need more payload than I can get with 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma's. If forced to buy right now I'd seriously consider another F150 with the 2.7L EB engine. If I can find one equipped right I'll can get more towing and payload than my current Ford with the same fuel mileage as Tacoma.

I'm a one vehicle man. I get attached, name it, maintain it, and it becomes like one of the family. I take her everywhere. I would short out trying to decide what to drive if I had more than one.

Earlier this year I was looking for a 23 DCOR with a MT. Very scarce it seems, most sold before they hit the showroom. However I found one at a small dealer down the coast in Electric Lime at msrp and bought her on the spot. I couldn't be happier. I needed a light truck and a fun driver, and Rita does both for me.

That said, that same dealer right now has a Red GR Corolla in stock. Also msrp. I need the truck but damn, I would love winding that crazy hot hatch around the roads here.

 

Would be a Tundra for me - Tacoma's too small for the kids with the jumbo car seats. Maybe some day they'll fit better but for now I use the Tacoma just for work. We've got an Atlas as our main bus and an old Jetta as the in-town daddywagon so it's working out for now. It would kill me to lose the stick, so I'd go to a Tundra as my one vehicle but I don't think it'd last long. I'd end up with a cheap race car too.

My brother-in-law has a black 2015 6pd TDI - awesome vehicle. VW knows how to nail it.

My 2003 Honda Pilot (bought new in Hawaii) was a total loss on Oct 3, 2018; it had over 200K miles.

My transition vehicle was a 2010 Mazda CX-9 until May 14, 2021.

I've appreciated 4-door vehicles with voluminous space when hiding 3rd row seats.

I could do a sports sedan but my wife has a 2017 Elantra that takes care of that itch...albeit at a lesser speed racer.

Knowing me, if anything ever happened to my current Sport, I'd probably stay with a newer version of a Tacoma.

 

Well… I’m not gonna be replacing my taco anytime soon. But if I were it would be a Gladiator. I’ve owned Jeep’s in the past and I’m familiar with the pros and cons. I miss the ability to take the top off on a nice day, etc.

Also… in the future I may need a truck with greater towing capability. In that case, I’d go with an F250.

But like I said, I’m not gonna be trading my taco anytime soon. Certainly not in the next 7 years or so.
