2004 Tacoma ABS light coming on and then going out. No problem with the brakes , which are new this year. It is soon time for NYS inspection. Will this keep the truck from passing the state inspection. Thanks for your input. fs

Have you checked for codes in the ABS system?
I'm not sure what the laws are there but here in Texas it wouldn't matter.

    mine does this quite often.

sometimes it stays on for a minute or 2.... others until i restart it. & then it might not come on at all a day.

no codes coming up on my scanner.

Check your brake fluid. There's a sensor in there if your fluid gets low or your brakes get worn down to much.

Do you have a scanner that can read codes from the ABS Module? Most generic scanners can only read engine codes.

You can also flash the codes out with the light.

Also a good suggestion, should get a red Brake warning light with a low fluid level though.

Could be the speed sensors? In the hubs too. Those magnets that ride in the hub, the wires along the steering knuckles could get snagged up or be shorted. They go from the wheel bearing area up into the engine bay.

Of course anything is possible, first thing is to see what code(s) you have otherwise it's just a complete guessing game.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Here in Pa a ABS light does not matter for State Inspection.

It sure sounds like a intermittent open circuit

    it clears codes too.

gonna put some new rotors on & another set of pads with my next oil change. will check the censors & wires then.

I'm not sure if the system is different on an 03, but I know on my 98 the ABS and OBDII systems are isolated, and unless you have a scanner that can plug into the diagnostic port in the engine bay your only way to pull ABS codes is to jump E1 and Tc on the diagnostic port when the ABS light is on and read the codes by the ABS light blinking.
