No way Jose. I will never buy anything from GM, even if they do look nice and drive well. I test drove a used Colorado before I bought my Taco, and I’ll admit it was tempting. Then I read up on the widespread transmission problems, etc.

Literally no one I know has ever expressed any interest in this Colorado.

This thread was basically the first I even heard of it, though it might not be a terrible truck.

I don't like GM at all as a brand, yeah some of their management decisions I don't agree, and I can't do anything about that short of joining their management team. They haven't returned my call.

GM's 1/2 tons look and HDs look good and their fullsize SUV. The ZR2 and Bison ZR2 HD looks very nice. I like their RC 1500s, and I like the Silverado 1500 W/T with the Z71 package it's a lower trim truck vinyl floor alloy wheels Duratrac tires yada yada. The Trail Boss trims look good out of the box. I would like to see more basic trucks that offer offroad packages.

GM is trash. Some look good I do agree but 60- 70 miles and you end up with a depreciating piece of junk. Trust me If something goes wrong they will take to the cleaners more than any other company .
If I was forced to buy something from the big 3 it would be Ford. Now the Nissan Frontier I do like . I’ve owned a few and even though they weren’t as refined they were great reliable trucks .
When I look for a new truck I won’t even consider any other brands . Am I being closed mined ? I suppose. But after 1- Toyota truck , 3- Tacomas , and 1- 4 runner and two frontiers . Not one caused me a moment of grief . Mind you I am in outside sales of construction equipment , so I put some serious mileage on them. So yes I have brand loyalty. Some of the other reps have big 3 trucks and all of them have had issues with transmission , lifters , wiring ( truck out of service for a month ) all sorts of issues
no thanks ! I’ll stick with my plane jane underpowered not so good gas mileage Tacoma. Then when I decide to sell it I’ll get top dollar

My personal opinion.....is there is currently nothing out there reliability wise that is better than Toyota. I switched to Toyota in 21'. I have 4 Toyotas in the driveway. I was (and kinda still am a Ford guy) but I was ready for a change. I've always respected Toyotas and my wife's 05 4runner sealed it for me for now. It is 18 years old, on its second battery, one front hub, brakes and general maintenance is all it's ever needed. I'm always looking at other brands and have owned some toys as a second vehicle (mustangs, challenger, Jeeps) but the motor options in today's trucks just suck for long term reliability IMO. Even Toyota's turbo/hybrid stuff in the new Tundras and soon to be Tacomas have me suspect. I'd like to try out a ranger, a Colorado or Canyon but I just don't feel comfortable with their reliability.

I think if anyone can get a turbo right it would be Toyota . But time will tell

Ya that's actually a good point. I hadn't really looked into the GMC as much but that probably is the perfect package between the 2. Good call.

You have to buy what you feel most comfortable with, most definitely.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw a (insert non-Tacoma truck here) break down, overheat, leak oil all over, and catch fire at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Plus, when you own a Tacoma, you are automatically friends with everyone who owns every other make and model of truck/car out there. And, as an added bonus, all of your friends have had nothing but trouble with, been almost killed or were actually killed by, and/or had their lives ruined by a ________ (non-Toyota manufacturer) ___________ (non-Toyota model).

Very true. I mean yes my truck SHOULDN'T have needed a new frame either as my Colorado SHOULDN'T have blown the engine. Toyota replaced the frame and gave me a free rental. GM dicked me around for months about even doing the job despite being in powertrain warranty plus the secret warranty they wrote on the head, left me without a vehicle for several weeks, and I arrived to pick up the truck with a surprise bill of almost $2000 that they wouldn't release the truck without full payment. As I have always said, stuff happens. It's not that it happens, it's how it's dealt with.

See my post above this about the hosing I got from GM. They told me it's normal to blow the engine in 4 years. Interesting..

I'm surprised Honolulu PD did not go with a Tacoma DCLB instead. If the department does order more pick ups and wants to stick with midsize long bed crew cabs. What would they be since GM does not offer the LB anymore. Maybe 4G Tacos, or Frontiers? Fullsize pickups are probably too wide but could work. I'm thinking price was the determinant factor for going with Chevy.

For fleets, price is the main factor that companies/cities look at. No one wants to spend more than they have to. Around here, I see fleet vehicles that are Tacomas, Colorados, Rangers, F150s, and Silverados all the time. All for various companies/municipalities, of course.

I saw in another press release that these trucks were acquired in 2020, so they were already in possession of them and are being repurposed. Which makes sense, to use them as a utility.

Initial cost was probably still less than acquiring 10 DCLB Tacomas in Hawaii back in 2020. Yes fleet vehicles have to purchased in the most fiscally responsible manner possible from initial cost and maintenance factored in.

The Colorado in the video was sandwiched in between two 4Runners.

Ford and Chevy build the most fleet vehicles including special service speced vehicles. I was thinking a Frontier DCLB, or a F-150 XL they wouldn't necessarily not the Responder version would be a good fit for a future purchase, but the Ram Classic 1500 would probably be more cost effective, and might be sized closser to a midsize. I don't think those get a long bed option except on the RC, and they could order the SSV package with 4x4.
