Do you need a transmission skid plate before adding a transfer skid plate

It depends on the skid plate manufacturer and how it all bolts onto.

It depends... I replaced the stock SR5 skid/braces with the All-Pro Off Road powder coated front aluminum IFS skid plate (22 lbs., same weight as the stock parts), and recently received the All-Pro (powder coated) steel transmission skid plate (15 lbs.) which bolts to the rear of the skid plate. Trail Gear companies (emails today from Wheelers and All-Pro Off-Road) have a 20% off sale for Father's Day. Shop around, and remember that weight=fuel.
