    I bought a used 2002 TRD V6 with supercharger in 2005.
Both a mistake and not. Not because they’re tough as nails. I Should have taken the supercharger off right away but never did. It required premium gas all those years and it probably caused the engine failure in 2021. Mechanic bought it and rebuilt it and sold it for $8,500 in 2021.
Fast forward to 2023, post pandemic pricing and availability in the Northeast, 6 weeks of shopping and I bought a used 2019 TRD V6 quad cab long-bed. I think the truck hunts for gears coming down hills. It dropped down on its own and the rpm’s went from below 2200 to 3200.
In retrospect a similar vehicle I test drove had a plug-in controller on a wire for the tranny in the cab.
Is this what I can expect to have to do? If so, okay, but I would think Toyota could have just updated software for such a simple problem.

sounds like its just downshifting to use the engine compression to control the descent. mine does it,too. saves you from using the brakes

Driving with the ECT on can create jumpiness trying to hold at certain rpms.
A bad TDC sensor would also cause shifting issues but you would most likely notice problems during acceleration, as well.
Keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't worsen.
