    Hello,

I have a 2001 Ranger here with the 3.0 (actually a Mazda B3000) that has eaten two brand new water pumps in less than 1k miles - both failed with cracked housings. The first one I was willing to write off as a bad part, but not two in a row from completely different supply chains. The original failed (leaking from weep hole) after over 200k miles, thus the first replacement. The second one actually took the serp belt with it too.

Both new pumps were fine initially after installation, no leaks at all, and failed suddenly while on the road. Cracked housings in both cases.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be the underlying problem here?

Make sure all the pulleys are good, make sure tensioner is good , make sure there are no blockages in the system , check everything in the flow path.Install again

Put a wrench on the tensioner and see if it's getting sticky

Where did the housing crack? Is it near the pulley snout or at the mounting flange to the block? If crack is near the pulley snout, check for fan contact with the fan shroud (due to worn fan clutch or engine mounts). If crack is at the mounting flange, wrong fastener placement, wrong torque value, or wrong tightening sequence may be to blame.
