Hello. I currently have a 3” 285/70 setup and wanted to go to 6 inches or atleast enough to fit 35s. Not much off-road use but mudding. And new gears will be done too if I get the lift done. Anyone know some good 6” lifts that don’t cost a small loan.

6" lifts are not something most people would encourage... You have to cut out a crossmember and install a sub-frame.
Also, if you live in an inspection state, you might not get it to pass.

Do what all guys who are serious about going off road do...
    Chop everything.
Beat the shit out of all welds.
    Cut some more.
    Use the torch a lot.
    Beat some more.
Get a bigger hammer and beat some more.

Then 35's will fit and your center of gravity will be low.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

I don't know if it is a concern to you, as that level of modification is pretty much irreversible the well touted Tacoma resale value takes quite a hit.

Cross-member cutting and a less stable vehicle. Although living in Florida as well it wouldn't be anywhere near close to the most outrageous lift I've ever seen. I've seen trucks with lifts here that I'm amazed stay upright going around a turn. If you don't ever plan on selling the truck and like the way it looks, it's your money so go for it. This will give you an idea of what you will end up with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNvom_tIalk

While this is true, it doesn't necessarily mean it's legal. Since we have no state inspection the requirements are written into the motor vehicle statutes and you can be cited if you violate them. Regarding lifts, a truck weighing less than 5,000 lbs has a max bumper height of 28" in the front and 30" in the rear. Tacomas come in at about 4,500 lbs, so this would apply to your truck. Violations of this count as moving violations like speeding.

It probably should be asked (since it's not on your profile), is your truck 4x4? Or are you 2WD (RWD)?
This makes an enormous difference when it comes to 4-6" kit recommendations...

Improves caster, pushes your wheels forward an inch to clear the firewall better. Also improves holding alignment in place. Allows truck to maintain a low center of gravity as less lift is needed to clear 35’s. Pretty much an all around benefit but if you plan on selling your truck it will probably decrease price as would be true with any significant modification especially if not welded well by a competent welder / installer.

    Why go with girly 35's?

6" lift w/35's with an V6 with 278 hp. Not a great combo. Don't care if you change gears. Foolishness.

BDS suspension is probably your best bet for 4x4. Like mentioned though, it'll be $$$ if you want it right with the Fox coilover shocks (so do plan on that small loan lol). Rough Country is another you might look at, RC has available their own Vertex shocks which are less $$$ than Fox, but still seem to get decent reviews. RC is unusual in that you can fit 16" wheels on it w/o them hitting against the tie rods (BDS and others require 17" or even 18" wheels)

You mentioned already having 3" lift... Are you good with a welder? (or know somebody who is?) If you have good shocks on it now that you're happy with, another option might be to get the standard kit that comes with spacers and then cut the front spacers down 3/4" so that you can use your current shocks without overextending the suspension (yeah it sounds a bit hack, but done correctly would work perfectly fine). This would save you around $1500 vs getting a kit with new coilovers.
