I ran my oem for about 80'000kms... probably too long but it was still okay when I changed it. The new filter I installed has a foam pre-cleaner.. acdelco I believe. I just set the truck minder to 50'000kms which based on appearance is prolly all i'd want to push if not around 40'000kms next time depending on when I happen to order from Rockauto

I'm using an AFE dry pro, washable, and do it twice a year.

replace mine every 15000. If I have a good hunting tag and spending a lot of time offroad on dusty two tracks I'll inspect it earlier right after the trip and then possibly replace it.. It will depend on your usage. 15000 is a good place to start if your just on pavement. Az has a lot of dust here in general. The earliest I have ever replaced one is 5000. Some who do a lot of group trips in a dry environment will change them earlier and possibly after each trip. Ive seen some, Death Valley, that probably should have replaced a filter mid trip. That type of driving, on a regular basis, would be a good time to consider a snorkel. Long answer lol

Check it every oil change. Replace it when it's dirty.

Every 30K or so which, for me, is 2-3 years. I am sure I could go longer as the factory filter is really good. Lots of filter area.

Lift, wheels, tires, sliders, and skidplates...so far.
I have a Pro model, which came with some type of K&N filter. I clean and lube it back up at every oil change (every 5000). I know the maintenance schedule says it only needs the oil changed once every 185,000 miles or whatever but I still do it every 5000. My filter doesn't usually look super dirty unless I do a lot of off roading in dusty conditions.

With previous trucks, I always replace the air filter at every oil change, no matter what it looks like. It's cheap insurance for a very crucial part of your truck.

I just go by the owner's manual, slightly earlier if I am already in the shop.

Cabin, engine filters last 6 months in my car. I am a 4K mile oil change dude, too.

I have gotten in the habit of changing the air filters (engine and cabin) and the wiper blades on my vehicles on January 1 every year. That way I can keep track of when they were changed. I find mine usually are dirty and need to be changed after 1 year.

For those who feel their filter is good after 20,000 mi. you should compare it to a new one by holding both to light while side by side.

I changed my OE one out at 42,000kms (30,000 miles) it looked like new. Unless I hit a dust storm I won't change again until I rack up 60,000kms (36,000 miles) on the new one.

I fail to understand the benefit of changing air filters so often, I typically go eighty- to one-hundred-thousand miles on a filter.

I check it every five thousand miles, which is while I'm doing tire rotation. Replace as needed during inspection, but absolutely replacement at twenty thousand miles. Same goes with my cabin air filter.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
I change mine every 10K miles or so, and it gives a nice performance boost. I am off road a lot in very dusty conditions so it clogs up fast.

I mentioned in a similar thread that I tried 3 different brands of engine filter, and all of them sucked. Power loss.

I put the OEM back in, and all was good.

I regularly do a trip that has a 5,000 foot elevation gain, that at 70mph takes 24 minutes to climb. Often with 1,000 pounds in the truck bed. I have the same load in my truck each time on those trips.

That is where the performance loss from the after market filters was really brutal. The truck was just gasping, as the airflow was restricted by the after market filters. I was doing 60mph at 4500rpm with the aftermarket filters. With the OEM I was doing 70mph on the same stretches of road at 3000rpm.

When driving on the flats it was not really that noticeable.

This is my 4th 4x4, and is the only truck where I experienced this from after market filters.

So, I will never go after market filter again in the Taco for the type of conditions I drive.

On the anniversary of my purchase date every year. Made this a practice on all my vehicles. Usually after 10k to 12k miles if use.

Just an FYI, but the dirtier the oiled K&N filters get, the better they work! I have a drop in K&N filter in my FJ and go 50K miles between cleanings.

    Carry on!

I use an AFE Dry Pro; I generally pull and clean it once a year. I have an OEM that I'll drop in for a couple days as I like to make absolutely sure the Dry Pro is completely dried out from the cleaning. I'm planning on pulling it this weekend for an extra cleaning after the couple of days of horrid air quality we had from the Canada wildfire smoke that blanketed the area recently.
