Any woodworkers?

I saw a cutting board like this one online and wanted to build one like it. It’s an optical illusion, the horizontal walnut strips are parallel. One coat of butcher block oil and I’ll probably put another one on tomorrow.

I was looking at HD and they had like no stock. So I popped over to Lowe's. The DeWalt looked great but was $200 more than the Bosch and Metabo.............then out of the blue a Bosch factory rep comes into Lowe's and right on the spot says he will knock 20% off the sale price. $479!

*OK I do exaggerate her cheapness and control for fun. She really doesn't care what I buy, but damn we have been spending a hella more than we should lately.

I did that once.

In my case, I moved the tape "out of the way" of the blade. Unfortunately, it was only to the edge of the board closest to me. Had a handy 9' measure though....

 

I havent done it yet...could happen though

 

It's OK he was just working his way up to the line.

 

My "cut beyond" moment was when my corded circular saw ran through the piece and into what was supposed to be empty space. The power cord of the circular saw mysteriously moved itself into that empty space.

That cord has been twist-tied and electrical-taped for at least 15 years and the saw is still is use.

What router table do you have?

If you had a do over what router table would you buy?

 

Haters gonna hate, but I'm not a professional woodworker so I have a Ryobi router table and a couple of Ryobi routers and they have served me well with no issues.

 

They’re some nice ones out there, I would definitely check out the Kreg, but depending on what you do and how much you do I would consider a small shaper, having a dedicated machine is really nice, you don’t have to just use shaper cutters as most you can also use router bits.

 

I have a corded Ryobi sawzall from the early 1990's. Still works fine!

 

Kreg has been calling my name.

Had not thought about a stand alone shaper in any detail. Interesting.

I have the Bosch setup with the router and table. I have had it for about five years now. I built the moveable base out of 2x4s. It works fine, but I wish it was bigger when I edge detail large picture frames and that the height adjustment was quicker/ easier. The Kreg with a Shark RS1000 looks interesting for sure.

 

Build your own table and get a Jessem router lift. Lots of plans/idea on the internet. For precise routing you need a lift.
