I use a trailer hitch carrier for my ebike and dirt bike fits too. I just got rid of my tonneau cover when I installed my decked drawers. Next is a topper but for a bit more cash I could get some sleeping quarters built in also.

how roomy is the tent? Too tight for two people and a baby?

Yeah a hitch carrier is on my list once I do get a dirtbike. Not sure I'd trust one for my sport bike though lol.

Tent is fairly roomy, I believe the dimensions are something like 50"x90". Definitely doable for 2 adults and a baby*

*depending on the size of the adults

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
After all the RTTs and different setups I have had and still own. The GFC by far is the lightest, sleekest design, and affordable design out there.
Sleeping in the bed of your truck under a camper shell isn’t a comparison to one of these wedge campers.
I also own an AluCab which is almost double the money when you’re done with it all. The AluCab is more robust and built like a tank. But it also looks like one and is way heavier than the GFC.
I live it for the gullwing doors, and full access to my truck bed. I also have a decked system I use for my long guns and gear.
The GFC works perfectly with it, also having a fridge mounted on top of the decked, makes it easy to get things out of the fridge when I need to. From over the side of the bed, or even when I am up in the tent, by removing a panel.

If you have the funds and spend a good amount of time outdoors, then yes it will pay for itself time and time again. Shit you only live once, so treat yourself. If it ain’t your thing, there is a huge market for them.

It's like a long full size bed. Excellent for two people, but I would not want to add a baby.

I got mine exactly because I want to have a fast/comfortable camp set up and still be able to throw a deer or whatever in the bed. In an ideal world, I would have an RV+toy hauler, a sprinter van, and my truck (and a porsche and an electric commuter)...but as that garage is not an option, the GFC has served us well for four years of adventures.

Not quite finished with my build out but getting close enough I feel like posting pictures. Includes on board air, water pump, 230ah AGM with 200W solar up top, fans, heater, and 2000W inverter.

Floor is 3/8 coated floor out of a sprinter van. Cabinets are 1/2" Baltic birch with an opaque deck stain and lonseal coindot on top. I used piano hinges and gas struts for the hatch doors, which was a mistake but you live and you learn. I made the bags on the side from a bike frame bag pattern with cordura. The bug netting is secured with magnets VHB'ed to the underside of the bed lip.

We had a Drifter with two adults and a baby for the first year or so and it's perfectly comfortable. We used a little fold-up bassinet to keep us from rolling over on to her. Then we moved our daughter down to a pack-n-play size crib thing on the bottom while we slept up top. Then I built a more full-size crib space for her. Then we had another child and gave up the truck and wedge camper for a van.

We went through a few RTTs before finally landing on the GFC and the biggest selling point was the 10 second setup and 30 second breakdown. Essential when your tent is also your transportation! But the full side opening panels on the shell are also amazing. It’s been great on my hunting trips. It’s not fun to load out elk with a topper on, tho.

it definitely feels like a great investment considering we now choose the truck and backcountry over other spendier vacation options.

Installed some 3/8 grommets today so I don't have to use tarp clips with the shittco awning

I spend a handful of nights each winter at White Pass (to ski) and in the Olympics (to fish) and the GFC has been totally fine in both the rain and the snow/cold. The best thing I did was purchase a couple of yoga towels to help mop up any unwanted intrusions of rainwater or condensation. Eventually though a dometic fan is gonna be the move to help with the overnight condensation.

Looks like it sticks out about 2"?

I just bought the ironman quick release brackets for my OVS awning, was hoping I could source some shorter hardware and bolt it directly to the extrusion without using the GFC mounts and keep it as slim as possible but not sure if that'd work. GFC brackets will be the backup option if so.

GFC brackets move it out about 2 inches. Mine have a spacer behind them to clear the lip on the back of the camper. If you mount them on the side you won’t need them so it would be slightly less.

I am curious if anyone has came up with or seen a good heating solution for a GFC where you can heat the whole thing? Tent and truck bed?

One of those Chinese diesel heaters will put out more than enough heat for both areas.

Sorry I should have been more specific on my question haha. How do you get heat distributed to both areas without leaving part of the floor open? I can’t do that with my 1 year old son. I’m super interested in doing a diesel heater but haven’t seen any setups like I’m describing…

If you ran a Y pipe on the heat outlet and kept the 2 sections after the Y the same length... that should work fine. If I were doing something like that I'd go through one of the bed cubbies. They are easy to get through, low, somewhat protected from the elements and replaceable if you ever fudge it up too bad or need to go back to stock.
