My question is do I really need to buy a the Crux interface thing? I don't care about using the buttons on the steering wheel. I was just wondering if I could just change it out like I have before on a 90's model (with just the proper wire harness)

It depends on the HU. A 90’s vehicle? Do you want CarPlay etc. Joying is configurable for 2nd gens with their stock wire harness. YMMV.

Try “Crutchfield” they have a fairly wide database.

Yes. If you’re not concerned with the steering wheel controls, you just need the metra 70-1761 harness

I keep seeing this comment of "joying" in this forum while searching. I need to look more into it, I did a quick google and looks to be a company selling head units. what is special about them? The one for my truck says it cannot work with oem backup camera and that seems like a huge loss.

    It’s a cheap Chinese brand.

Is your camera displayed in the mirror? If so, the wiring isn’t behind the radio so it can’t integrate with it.
If your factory screen displays the camera, it should integrate

    I wouldn't consider $500 a cheap stereo lol

my camera displays in the stereo, but in the specs of the joying it says will not work with OEM reverse camera.

considering that i once spent close to $2k building my own car computer setup, $500 in today's money for a competitive option with pre-configured software is dirt cheap.

I did a good bit of reading on it last night and it appears the joying comes with all the wiring and controls needed for my phone connection and radio controls on steering wheel. Only thing have to modify wiring wise is my OEM back up camera.

considering I don't have to purchase an additional $100-$200 in wiring for the controls it's prolly not a bad deal then.
