Can't mount a plow with the winch.

The TRD Pro is about fifteen hundred less than the AT4 2500. Both trucks were built with popular options and accessories. The GMC included upgraded rims, and interior/tech upgrades. The Pro got a dash cam runningboards, and traction boards. Base price on the AT4 is less than the base price of the Pro. You can order the GMC, the Pro? Well I couldn't find one for sale to see the price, maybe a dealer could find one.

Love that you’re adding all kinds of things to juice the tundra price.

I still don’t know why you’re insistent that people honesty cross shop these vehicles

Base on the AT4 is $69k the base on the Pro is $70k. I juiced the price on both trucks. I added the most popular running boards Pro owners chose, and a dash cam along with tow mirrors because we are cross shopping HDs. The GMC got wheels, heads up display, and something else plus snow plow prep package.

The trucks are competitively priced. Every online car site has a category where you can shop by price. There are people out there that shop vehicles by price.

    Edit

The last 3 trucks on page 3 are a Silverado 3500 dually, a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, and a Tundra Platinum. That's cross shopping three very different trucks, but there they all are.

Dunno, think it is about what you can you get for the same amount of money. I crossed shopped CUV, SUV, MidSize, & 1/2-1 Tons.

Have some dirt bike buddies we have all different vehicles which we basically use to do the same thing, (haul bikes) we all spent the same amount of money too, roughly $40K. One with a Subaru Outback Wilderness, another has a F350, and me with a Tacoma. I settled on a happy medium and bought the Taco.

Lay the cash out on the table and decide how you want to spend it. My next truck the budget is $60K or their abouts, lotsa choices out there to pick from. So many tools to do a job, begs the question is why wouldn’t you cross shop???

Toyota had the chance to give the Raptor a run for its money. Too bad they didn’t do it right. A 5.0L version of this mated to a MT…

Too bad the US government hates diesels. Toyota will never bring any of their diesels over unfortunately.

Toyota has a hair trigger warranty denial process already. I wish everyone good luck tuning the gen 4 turbo. Keep it stock and be happy with it.

Doubtful there will even be tuning options within the first few years, if any at all. I think the tuning business will begin the process of slowing to a trickle once the 4th gen is out. If the drivability is significantly better compared to the 3rd gen, as told by one of the Toyota engineers, then expect people to jump ship and move to the new gen.

Also, a bit more amplifying information:
The tuners were told the 3rd gen Tundra would have day 1 tuning support back in 2021, and just recently the tuners were told "no comment" when asking for an update on the status.

Of all the updates coming on the 4th gen, this has me exited the most. I bought a '22 OR 6-speed last fall assuming that 1) the manual was unlikely to stick around and 2) the driveability issues were easily fixed with a tune. Lucky for me, #1 turned out to be false (hats off to Toyota on that). Unluckily, #2 was false as well. I'm not enamored w/ the 3.5, but it's livable, and i'm not opposed to revving the nuts off of an engine. The tuning, however, is an embarrassment, and really degrades the driving experience. While I'm generally of the view that you'll have to pry the manual out of my cold dead hands, it really does amplify poor engine tuning. I know Toyota had to make a bunch of trade-offs during development (likely emissions driven), but there's no excuse for what they put out, it's just lazy. The other shortfalls of the truck are either easy enough to look past (there's still some old-school charm left in the 3rd gen), or addressed with the aftermarket.

On paper, the 4th gen appears to address pretty much all of my issues with the 3rd gen (payload, rear suspension, torque) and keeps a manual option in the off-road. If they've truly addressed the driveability with the engine, plus the the fat torque curve of the turbo, I suspect I'll be trading up way earlier than originally planned.

yeah, not an inspiring review on the engine change in the highlander. Their 3.5 had a few more ponies than ours, and their 4cyl gets a few less. Auto tacomas will see no change in HP with a decent bump in torque at a lower RPM. They did have this to add though:

"So, the 2.4 turbo can't quite match the V-6 in acceleration but stays (just barely) ahead of the hybrid. The new engine's drivability, though, is above reproach. The turbo's boost is smoothly integrated, and response is quite linear for a boosted four."

I've had a handful of toyota trucks/SUVs with their V6 (3vz-e, 5vz-fe, 2gr), they've never been particularly quick or efficient, but generally reliable in my experience. The 5vz especially, may as well be an anvil. From that perspective, the 2gr feels right up the middle for toyota, with the departure being garbage engine tuning. I'll wait to see what the tacoma version brings and interested to see what the experience is like with a manual behind it before I make any big decisions, but at least I have an option now.

When I'm driving a truck w/ a manual, I have a pretty big tolerance for lower powered engines. Maybe that's why I've always been able to overlook relative performance in my toyotas (although I did end up supercharging my 5VZ, so there's that). Once you change to an auto, that tolerance goes away, and I want all the power & torques.

If I was shopping for one of the next-gen midsizers with an auto, I'd be looking really hard at a ranger raptor. $55k (if you're patient and can find one at list) feels like a heck of a value compared to other offerings out there. I'm really hoping the new taco delivers so I can stop lusting after it.
