Traded my 4Runner in on a 2021 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 4x4 with 17000 miles on it that has been in the shop for 3 separate occasions to repair the air conditioning, the service writer gave me a song and dance about the rubber O rings drying out due to the weather in upstate NY. Funny I drove the 4Runner for a longer period in the same conditions and the air worked perfect and now I am Taking the runner in for the fourth time to have them replace the rings and check the system for any other problems. With the size of the dealership I would think O rings and the respective clamps would be a stock item. Looks like we are going have a few words with the service manager about the Handling of this situation.

i believe it's got more to do with the oem's constantly altering the refrigerant.

we just need to go back to propane and be done with it.

So you live in Upstate NY, and according to the service writer this is the reason it happens, so logic dictates that every Tacoma they have sold in the last year or two or three experiences the same thing over and over again. Get that in writing from the guy and then get a lawyer to ask for the data to support it.

I'd think they use the A/C quite a bit more than some, as I am assuming they run in defrost quite a bit, which of course on any modern vehicle is running the A/C compressor regardless of driver options selected.
The service writer's BS and the fact they have taken a few swings at this, should be reason enough to go to another shop.

With the refrigerant they use today, were lucky the a/c cools at all.

Dealer repaired the air conditioning yesterday. They replaced 4 O rings and 4 clamps and put in 5 grams of refrigerant. Total for the parts and refrigerant was about 110 dollars and 2 1/3 hours of laqbrt for a total of $465 dollars. They charged me nothing as it was a Toyota Certified purchase less than 90 days ago. Would have bought a new one BUT they were so backed up I could not find anything but 4 dr crew cabs.

A 2021 with 17k should still have the factory 36/36 warranty. I don't think the 2021 was released in June of 2020....
