My ripley currently has the Dissector front and Rekon rear. I've been loving the rekon as a rear tire. I ran DHF front and Rekon rear for a bit too. This is purely my trail bike so I haven't noticed much difference switching from DHF to Dissector. I did a 50 mile backcountry race (almost 7k ft climbing) on the dissector/rekon setup. It was raining all day with lots of rocks and roots. I never felt like I needed more tire in the front or that I was bogged down by my tire choice.

I do want to try the new forekaster at some point but with the dissector/rekon setup I'm pretty happy. The only other setup I'd consider is the DHRII front. That would be between Assegai and Dissector traction wise but at this point I don't feel the need to go DHF or DHRII front. If I need more traction I probably want the big bike anyways haha.

Spent two days at Windrock, my first time there. WOW that place is incredible. Easily the steepest, most technical and intense riding I’ve ever done. Absolute awesome time!

I like the dissector fine in the rear. Had a few early washouts with the "vague" area between center and corner knobs but adjusted to it and it's a non-issue now. It really seems like a mini DHF honestly which is why I think I might like it up front ok with like a Rekon in the back for a fast setup over the summer. Biggest hesitation is how fast I'm worried I'll kill it on the front. Lots of talk of it not being very durable, but I'm pretty easy on tires (and live in loam land).

Nice. I know some knock the combo, but I'm leaning going that way just to experience what the bike feels like with a light fast rolling setup. I've been on nothing but Minions for like a decade (and more recently the Dissector rear) so might be fun to mix it up.

yeah I think it is similar to the DHF/DHR side knobs. Unless you are going for all out traction it's a solid setup. It still leans towards traction over rolling resistance and may be more of a compromise that may not be worth the compromise which is why I'm curious about the forekaster. If that makes any sense haha.

Totally but it's always about finding the right balance for terrain and intended use. Otherwise we'd all be on Assegais f/r or Ikons f/r. Goes for bikes too and it's a struggle. Like I compromised downhill ability by going with a shorter travel bike, but my short travel bike compromises weight and efficiency to be more downhill friendly, but compromises downhill ability with conservative/agile geometry....so what the hell tires is that supposed to have and for what strength or weakness??

Very good point haha, getting a 2nd bike made it easier for me for sure haha. Luckily these tires see the same set of trails most of the time so it’s easy to decide which tires are best for me haha

Take a look at the Conti Xynotal. Great tread pattern, shorter blocks, looks fast rolling. Bonus is that it's on sale for $50.
I'm a big fan of their casing and feel. Just picked one up for the rear on the trail bike (Django). Running the Kryptotal rear in the front. Has DHR2-like pattern, taller knobs, still pretty dang fast rolling. Also on sale for $55.

Hey ladies and gents. I just started to get back into riding mountain bikes. As my trek was stolen about a year ago. I have a 1000$ budget any recommendations for solid mountain bike would be greatly appreciated.
    Also I'm 6'2 and 250lbs.

Check out the Grand Canyon 5 that is still currently on sale. I am a newb myself and just purchased it about 2 weeks ago. Has some good components and rides great compared to my previous GT bike.

Which law agency gave you the ticket?
I have driven in front of LAPD, CHP and Simi Valley PD and Ventura County Sheriff and they have never pulled me over. And I don’t have a front plate either. Were the bikes on the rack when they pulled you over?

Which casing are you running on the Contis? My Assaggressor combo is starting to go and I'm thinking of switching this season due to the price of maxxis.
