I have a pin head size hole leak in the metal high pressure power steering line about an inch past where it comes out of the rack in the bend section. Is there a way to temporarily patch this until I can get it replaced? I’m a girl who can manage light maintenance but replacing the line myself is way beyond my ability. But if I can slow it down somehow that would be great. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not really, worse yet if its really rusted it can fuse to the rack and destroy itself on removal. Soak the living hell out of the unions with penetrating fluid if you can.

Best thing you can do is let the truck warm up when cold so the fluid thins out, the highest pressure is when the ps fluid is thick and then the wheel is turned.

Btw, I’ve already tried using that two part putty, the fluid just pushed out the ends of the patch. But it helped a little, for a minute. No power steering in a windy, critters in the road, mountainous area is no fun! I have resources available so don’t be afraid to throw any suggestions out there…super glue, tie wraps, duct tape, JB Weld…whatever, I can find those things!

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Maybe just maybe a band aid can be made by using a piece of fuel line and hose clamps being it is the pressure side I doubt it will work

If you were close I would be glad to change the line .

    What size engine........

    I did mine about a year ago.....I have a 4 banger tho...
and still was a royal pia......

not because of the line fittings......but the frame clamps.....three of them...

and zero room to work.......took out battery and vac hoses.........

and then proceeded to try out for cirque du soleil......

Just finished my lines on a 2.7....total PIA. I bought/repalced both high and low pressure lines. I don't know how one would get to the high pressure side without removing the low pressure side anyway. Anyway, pulled the driver side tire and wheel well flap. Now you can see & reach the darn steering rack line where they terminate into the rack. I took a hand held hacksaw and whacked the lines at the nut. The high pressure line was 16mm and the low pressure was 17mm.....run a 6 point deep well socket with enough extensions to get you all the way to the radiator...trust me, it worked perfect. The nuts took a bit and cracked hard. There's sealant on both the nuts.

On the low pressure line, there's three brackets that hold it to the frame with 10mm bolts. If you're lucky, they will come out without snapping the head off. The high pressure line has a bracket with a metal strap lined with a piece of rubber. If you're lucky, the bolt will break free. Then you have to bend the bracket to release the hose....it will break in half (almost guaranteed), no worries, put it back together on the re-install and it will hold just fine. Overall, maybe a 6 on the F bomb scale...
