    Hello,

I just recently bought a 04 4x4 v6 Tacoma with E locker from a private party, completely stock. I noticed that the gears switches on high RPM between 3-3.2k. Also, while running 65 mph on the fwy, RPM sits at 3k steady.

Engine does not struggle at all. It doesn’t sound like it’s revving in 3k. My mileage is good around 300 miles full tank. If my RPM is on 3k all time it should drain my gas easily but no. I’m just wondering what are the possibilities on high it switches/run on high RPM.

Could it be possibly re-geared before?
Is this normal? Previous owner have no idea, just an old dude used it for work.

Dumb question: is your overdrive off? Is the ECT button on?

    Those RPMs are high.

Both overdrive and ECT are off.

Pretty sure you meant it the other way... but overdrive should be on for highway cruising. Will drop your RPMs being in a higher gear.
