The vents are there for a reason, but I don't know what the specific one is. I've read varying theories like when the air bags deploy, the air needs a place to go. When I was redoing the back wall of my Access Cab, I tested as I went along with a decibel meter app on my phone. The foam in the vents reduced sound more than the the butyl mats.

On the pool noodle, it reduces the road noise from below (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...3rd-gen-today.399305/page-12820#post-28554240). Some guys have reported about a 15dB reduction.

They're for pressure regulation. If you're blocking them you're reducing their effectiveness.

Turn your AC on recirculate, open your door, close it, if your ears pop or you feel a pressure change, you've blocked them too much.

This is why Toyota puts a wall and sound deadening in a blanket form in front of it vs stuffing it with open cell foam.

Awesome! That helps a ton. I was unclear about what people were doing with the noodle....

I wonder if adding noodles on the side of the bed, between the cab and bed, would also help???

To be candid, you'd get further redirecting the drone coming in from the vent than trying to block it. I've posted it a handful of times in this and the "What did you do to your second gen" thread - it might be easier to find in this thread. Believe it or not, putting the HDPE panel in place, spacers, then MOLLE panel reduced the sound signature so much that I didn't bother doing much else to it.

I will look into this. I might not even remove the rear portion of the seat, just the bottom ones....

I was looking underneath how I could add the pool noodle... Not sure I see a way to get it between the cab and bed.

Are people sliding it through on the side and just pushing it in in that way?

Also, I assume one cuts it in half?

    Progress!

Seats removed & second skin Damplifier pro Sound deadner installed. 30 sq ft is enough to do the entire rear wall and rear under seat, cubby and the large areas on the underside of the delete platform.

@RippNSh!t rear seat delete DIY kit is legit. Highly recommended. Finally wrapped up the filler, polyurethane and hit it with two coats of Monstaliner.

This stuff stinks! So far it looks like it’s drying nicely; definitely take the time to watch plenty of their YouTube videos and read the instructions. It’s finicky stuff. I bought two quarts but wish I would have just bought a gallon, reason being is the second coat is supposed to be more “set up” so your first mix would be ready to go for the second coat. (I had to mix twice and wait a bit). However, I only needed 1.5qts so a gallon would have been wasteful. IMG_9242.jpgIMG_9246.jpgIMG_9172.jpg

Built a new one today. Wanted to get the Jackery under the deck to give the dog some more room, and also give more space for storage. Both cubbies are fully accessible without needing doors up top. Needs a bit more work (sanding, carpet on the top, and maybe a little more cross-bracing), but the fitment is set, at least.

Simple platform utilizing the bottom seat brackets. Able to retain the rear cubby, under-seat storage bin, and gained a little under the platform. Coated in some leftover bed liner I had from a previous project. Need some better spacers to fix the 2 degrees it’s off from perfectly level (should’ve account for the bed liner’s additional thickness), but other than that it servers its purpose of relocating the fridge. Loving the extra bed storage I gained back. Now just need to give the truck a through cleaning.

Blackout , Tonneau, bed mat, bike rack, all weather mats (OEM), LED low beams, Blue LED cabin lights, more stuff to come.
How much do the factory rear seats weigh? I am wanting to do the seat delete but also interested in how much payload I can gain.

Thinking about using thinner plywood and running some bracing to keep it strong.

just use 3/4” ply and you’ll be fine. Thin plywood and bracing is gonna be more work than worth it

Finally off gassed enough (I hope:fingerscrossed:) to install today. Used up the remaining bit of sound deadner and put the magnets in the lids. Super solid!

Only thing left is to come up with a mounting solution and pull the rear seat belts whenever I come up with a bracket.

all you rear seat deleters out there

have you been hiding your rear seats in storage, taking up space, paying money to keep them monthly

or did you just throw them away immediately
