Anyone remember using a test pattern like that to adjust the vertical and horizontal picture settings of your TV?

The Horizontal Hold on my first 9" b&w Zenith never needed to be adjusted. Only the Vertical hold... And color? That was for the adults...

By the way, you can try to make a buck or two when at a hockey game by asking someone if they know what the red line is patterned, and the blue lines are solid. The answer is (at least until very recently), the red line was to have a distinct pattern so that a viewer could differentiate them on a black and white set.

Mine was not in color. And the last video just before the test pattern was either a poem "High Flight by John Gillespie or the National Anthem. Can you imagine such carrying on today? The horror.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    Television was for rich people!!

Mom said if you want a television get a job and buy your own.Being 8 years old I had no idea you needed an antenna on a pole in the yard.

Never really getting in the TV watching habit I focused on reading.

Well, my folks quickly grew tired of me watching cartoons in the living room, so they ended up getting me a small portable B&W set to watch in the bedroom. Dad even connected my room to the rooftop antenna so I didn’t have to watch a snowy picture.

Now the VCR... I, too, had to save for one. I opted for a front loader.

What a blast. I worked at McDonalds in 1976…mostly on the grill, but also worked the register. At the register you had a paper pad to take the order, had to add the up the prices on the paper pad/pencil and add tax. Only then you could key in the total sale amount into the register. The manager would reconcile at the end of the shift and the expectation was you woul be within a few cents between your paper calculations and the total cash in the register. I doubt most kids today could do the mental arithmetic we took as routine.

Count the change to yourself then out loud back to the costumer. Now days they look at the register half a dozen times then hand you a wad of money. Some don’t even say thank you

At my first job, I was taught to count up to make change, and keep all the bills in my drawer faces up facing the same way.

My local beer distributor takes cash only, and some of the kids working there get dumbfounded when the total is $36.77 and I hand them $42.02.

That’s cause a lot of them can’t count it, I’ve found!!! I remember when paying cash was faster. Now it’s like waiting for the imprint to be taken in triplicate.

Our first TV ... as an adult in our little 10x50 trailer out the back gate of Pope AFB, NC was a 19" B&W my Grandma brought to us. Replaced it 18 months later with a 19" Color set bought from eating ramen on my first long TDY to England and saving my per diem. :)

Our first TV was also a hand me down from Grandparents. B&W about 19". Then a console TV. During playoffs, Dad would set the smaller one on the console and watch 2 games at the same time.
