Do you happen to have a picture of how that works? I've been thinking of doing something like this.

A girl I knew parked her truck alongside a river for a swim and lost her two dogs when they jumped out of the bed with collar leashes on. A passerby cut their leashes off and laid their bodies back in the truck. Pretty sad and stupid of her to put long leashes like that on the dogs. Even a harness can cause constriction and suffocation if a dog is hanging from it, so I’d use a crate in the bed.

Sure, thats fair. I'd agree that line of thought shouldn't be the only determining factor to draw conclusions from. Its a lazy argument, but the point still stands.

not on the baby hooks, but the actual seatbelt clip for me. i have these

i just clip it to my dog's harness when he gets in the car and unclip his leash.
it also gives me a little more peace of mind so i can roll the windows down and know he won't be able to jump out.

That’s what I use too. Can use more than one if you need to keep him centered and away from the windows for some reason.

An "appeal to tradition" is not an argument, it's actually a logical fallacy.

I have a tri-fold mattress in the back of my truck with the cap on. It creates a "space" for my dogs to hang out, and they love it back there. Seatbelt harnesses are a great idea, but for my use case, impractical. In the event of a bad accident, they arent as well protected as if belted in, but there are a whole ton of other variables in that scenario too. I take the chance every time I drive with them, and drive generally quite defensively so I feel alright about it, but other people may feel differently. My pups are comfortable, breezy, and surrounded by soft foam.

Looks like that intro to philosophy course really paid off, good job:thumbsup: You'd be making a really great point if I were here to argue the ethics and morality of OP's decisions. Still, the point you've missed is I never made an argument for the morality of riding dogs in toppers. I made a point that there is a large numerical value, comprised of years and years worth of people, who have put dogs in toppers.. (with morality aside, encouraging OP to not listen to someone else's internet opinion of his ethical worth). Thats literally the answer to OP's question..
Yes; many years worth of people have, and will continue to do. Doesn't make it right or wrong, but you didn't ask that, so don't listen to the ones who will be here to debate it when they show up.

We all know lots of people do it, and OP and others who do so are seeking validation that is it acceptable through popular action.
The answer to that question is variable depending on your risk tolerance and more generally how you view the life of your animal. Answering OP's question literally is a poor take.

Plenty of people do it all the time and never get into accidents and don't have any problems.

For me I don't do it because I know if I did get into an accident the likelihood of serious injury or death to my 4 legged friend is greatly multiplied!
For me it's harness + Seat belt.

If you must put the dog in the bed they do make crash rated kennels that I think would be a good option.

Which is exactly why I say to OP, do what you want to do and call it a day. He decides what is best for his dogs, based on the value he places on them + the risk factors discussed. We all see controversial parenting on a daily basis, but we don't publicly shame them or intervene, unless there's a clear ethical or legal violation happening. Don't get me wrong, I love animals as much as the next guy, and plan to take every effort to provide safety to my own, but if OP needs validation to give him confidence in letting the dogs ride, let them feel the wind in their face buddy!

This isn't directed at you by any means, disclaimer, but sometimes I think some of the morality warriors around the internet who get up in arms about some things are the same who stick blocks in their children's shoes to make them taller so they can ride an adult roller coaster, get their kids iphones with unlimited plans at age 6, change their synthetic oil at 5k miles, etc :anonymous:
