2002 extra cab 3.4 180k 5 speed base. I just replaced pcv and grommet and hose. Grommet crumbled into approximately 137.72 pieces. There is no way to get them all. How long before 1 gets sucked in and engine blows?

(I watched every video available. I searched everywhere for an answer to this question. I used extreme caution and had great lighting and hemostats and everything)

I believe there’s a metal shelf kinda thing under the valve cover directly under the pvc grommet that should catch all the bits, Maybe a shop vac?

Thanks. I tried the shop vac. Didn’t move. I guess if it falls it’ll just sit there or get chewed up or blow the engine up. Lol. There’s had to have been millions of bits left behind by thousands of pcv replacements…?

It's less Tacoma and more mod
It'll be fine, it just sits in the PCV tray, can't really fall deeper unless you roll the truck over or something.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
You should be fine the pieces even if they worked into the oil and ended up in the pan ,

The screen on the pick up tube will keep the rubber from the oil pump.

Now if it was a container of metal shavings it might be interesting.

Yeah you should be fine. When I took my valve cover off to do the seals that area is pretty much boxed in. Unless the pieces were extremely tiny, I don't see how it will make it out.

Take off the valve cover if you’re really worried, it’s not a huge job.

Did mine a couple of months ago. Didn't realize that "shelf" was there to catch it when it fell in. Tried multiple tools to fish it out but ended up pulling the valve cover (2.4L) to get it out. Turned a 5 minute job into a couple of hours, but it was easy to do and eased my mind.

Luckily mine only crumbled into a few pieces that were easily fished out with needle nose pliers but I wasn't too worried about any tiny pieces still left behind.

Yeah those little gromets are the devil.....perfect storm....they set there for years unnoticed, cooking into a hard ceramic...

Probably more vac leaks than you know.....bottom has broken off, and you never know....

After going on my own fishing trip....I make sure to change that at least every 24 months.
Always go score another right after putting new one in for a reminder....

And I've found its better to attack it with two hemostats........otherwise, might have to go fishing....

And for god sakes, take the cover off.....its not that big a deal.
as a bonus, you can check valve clearances while your in there.
