If it ain't broke don't fix it. I've been meaning to replace coolant on my 2015, but I'm lazy. Kinda waiting for something to start leaking first, which probably isn't the greatest idea

I don't see any liquid inside the boots.

I did a drain and fill on my coolant at the radiator.
I declined to leave the block drains alone.
They weren’t leaking, and my luck says they would just as soon as I went to messing with them.

If it is the axle seal, you’re only 4 nuts away from doing that job anyways.
You will have take the shoes off and disconnect the parking brake.

    But, it still isn’t fun.
    The axle is coming out……

Is there more than one axle seal?

The seal that leaks gear oil is pressed into the axle tube

The oring is more of a dirt/dust seal

You'll see when you get it all apart

You're going to need a set of shoes, those things are soaked. I'd just get drums and hardware too if it were me

    Nope.
Here, this is what I used
You do NOT need the one labeled snap ring.

I wouldn't trust Amazon to get me the right seal. Spend money at a local parts store and keep them in business

FWIW, the parts I listed above are for the drivers side.
I don’t know 100% if passengers side is the same?
But I would assume they are?

As far as those brakes go, can't I just clean up the drum and hardware and replace just the shoes?

In a Facebook Tacoma group, a guy suggested that the problem could be caused by a clogged differential breather. My breather was definitely clogged. After cleaning the breather, do I still need to replace that axle seal? Obviously I will replace those shoes. Someone also suggested that I should replace that drum. Can I replace just one of them?
