Right on. I was going to say, I know they are strong and all, but a nudge shouldn’t be bending a metal bumper. But that makes sense. Glad it was an easy fix. Cool pics!

Had the BakFlip MX4 installed today. $1149 for the part plus tax, $49 to install it.

My leer is 5 yrs old & folds up against back window. The new Leers are flush mount, mine wasn't & that was ok. I couldn't find anyplace local to provide or install the new 3 or 4 panel Leer. The new Leer uses no drain hoses, don't know if good or bad. Looking at the new BakFlip- the latches are plastic while the Leer are metal. I like the releases better on the Leer, the cable on BakFlip looks like you could fish a coat hanger between top of tailgate & cover & snag that cable & open it w/ tailgate locked. BackFlip is definitely lighter. Leer cover doesn't touch cab when opened against window, the BackFlip has rubber strips & is pushed agains't cab when using the prop rods. I'll be honest, I'm not crazy about that at all. I do like the BakFlip keeps the rails, don't know if the new Leer does or not. It didn't 5 yrs ago. It mounted to the rails. Just thinking out loud. A few weeks of use & we'll see if it passes muster. Or I'm missing something....LOL

Full AllDogs Hyperborean lift, RadFlo coils, HD leaf packs full res RadFlo rear shocks, UCAs, full camber/caster alignment, full CMC/pinch and some 5.29 R&Ps.
Everything is way stiff atm, as I have not added the RCI sliders, armored SSO bumper, RCI rear bumper, nor the tounge weight of our off road trailer. Other than the tad stiff ride, the truck drives like a dream, and goes straight down the road no hands with no floating.
    SUPER happy!

Good info on the Leer. Even though it had some nice padding, I wasn't a big fan of the BakFlip touching the cab when it opened all the way up either. Our Tundra was white and it never left any marks, but it was a concern. Never noticed any water in the bed with the BakFlip but I don't know how much that could be contributed to the drain hoses. I had to lower the OE rails in the Tundra to install the BakFlip. Kind of a pain, but after all was said and done I liked how it looked and worked.

I'll have to take a look at the newer Leer covers. Always open to improvements!

EDIT: This one does look pretty nice. Spendy, but no more so than the competition. Based on some YT videos it looks like the Leer utilizes the existing bed rails to attach their rails but once installed you can still use the Tacoma's OE tie downs. Seems pretty nice. I liked the Leer cap I had on a 1st Gen Tundra I had. Good quality. Have to be on the lookout for discounts now!

With those cutouts I’d be concerned about water collecting inside the frame. Just sayin….of course I could be wrong and it wouldn’t be the first time. :anonymous:

Here's a side by side comparison of the 350 & 650.https://mytruckbedsolutions.com/blo...eer-hf350m-vs-hf650m-tonneau-cover-start-here 350 sits on top of bed & is 3 panels like BakFlip. The 650 is 4 panels & a flush fit like BakFlip. I see no advantage to 4 panels other than flush fit. I wouldn't spend the extra hundred. My 350 on the 2nd gen leaks very little but mostly at front of bed because top of bed is not flat all the way around like the 3rd gen. Mostly leaked running through carwash. I see both the new Leers are no longer aluminum panels. To get the BakFlip, I had to go to the guy who sold & installed my Leer, a 3 hr round trip. They are a Leer dealer but he says they have had several that cracked on the top trim on bed & no longer recommend them. Even their Leer display one cracked- inside & in air conditioning & never wet! Leer 3 yr warranty, BakFlip 5 yr warranty. I will say the 5 yr old Leer is a much more robust build. The BakFlip just feels cheap to me. I hope it holds up to daily use!

They had a very robust roll up bed cover that was all metal on display that works with racks. It's very heavy & I did like that the cover locked into position every 12". But I'm already giving up a foot of bed over my 2nd gen & that box takes up valuable real estate. Then the price...... The cover alone was near 3k. I asked how many he's sold. None! LOL

The installer can calibrate it for the new tire size. Additionally, unless you’re switching from alloys to steelies you don’t need new TPMS.

Mine shows "around" 340 miles to empty, after a fill typically. I get just under 20mpg around town, 21mpg highway.
