Glad to be back today. Yesterday I survived my 43rd wedding anniversary. Wife posted a picture from that day in 1980. Was 102°. A/C in church quit working. Window fan caught fire and a firetruck came. I was too naive to recognize those signs. My buddies ruined the pristine white paint on my 1964 Chevy with red shoe polish. They were thoughtful enough to vaseline my steering wheel for me. Caught up in the bliss of the day, unphased with the blazing heat and no car A/C, I guess things went pretty good.wedding day.jpg

I took my camper shell off and I liked the look of it off so much I haven't put it back on. There's only been a couple times I wish I had the dry space back. So I'm thinking about selling it.

It definitely looks like a truck again which is great. But my family of 4 definitely uses the shell. I'm excited for the new one because it'll make camping easier and I'll have side windows. DCSB shells are hard to come by. You'll have no problem selling it.

Yeah your new set up is gonna be so nice. I'm gonna be stoked for you. I have these big weather proof bags that I've been using to keep stuff dry on our trips. I kind of want a soft topper so I can have it there just when I need it. But it's hard to justify buying one that I only need a handful of times when there is other mods that I want more.

I appreciate that. Yeah these trucks are so versatile I love it. There's always so much you can change up!

i use to keep one of those soft bags in the bed of my truck for traveling, just strap it to the bed points and keep it nice and dry.

The sliders I bought from you have been saving me a good bit. There is some deep gouges and scrapes from rocks and some car paint on the passenger side one. I don't even know when that happened. Sucks for whoever smacked it. Haha

Picked up a new resistor and plug for the random fan only working on high issue. It rarely does it but I figured I may as well get the parts. I plan to redo it next weekend

I would say that a Softopper is one of the best things I’ve bought for my truck, the convenience of it constantly proves itself. Got it used for like $400, and I regularly see them pop up on local Craigslist for similar-ish prices.

Took a break at work today and put sound deadening in the last door. Next up is to pull the headliner and carpet so I can wrap up the rest of the cab but that'll likely be a spring or summer 2024 project.

Well, I got a Giant Loop Armadillo awhile back for moto-oriented stuff, and it's a quality piece of kit that I should never need to use. The Cactus Canteen was seriously tempting for either truck or moto stuff, but I'd already had a "bulk water" solution of a Watercell X 10L bladder a handful of years ago. So I made a knockoff cactus canteen with the Watercell X as the bladder host.

I inflated it for the purposes of getting maximum dimensions.

    230627-PXL_20230627_151831115.jpg

And then I turned this pile

    230627-PXL_20230627_151726427.jpg

Into this rough draft in my lunch hour on Thursday.

    230627-PXL_20230627_194202891.jpg

And then tonight I took another half hour, after I got velcro

    230630-PXL_20230701_025145481.jpg

    230630-PXL_20230701_025205619.jpg

I wanted the ability to also have a quick filter kit but instead of having to make a pouch, I found a tiny dopp kit bag in my bin that fit the bill.

    230630-PXL_20230701_025217861.jpg
    230630-PXL_20230701_025239105.jpg

I just need to add two more things to complete it, but the plan is to run the sawyer pouch as a dirty water gravity filter into the clean water Watercell via a hydration tube. Alternatively, if I'm on the move, running the filter in-line from the Watercell via hydration tube and using the Watercell as a dirty water container. So a lot of flexibility in mind.
