Just got a full lift, 34s (ish) and some 5.29s on my 2020 DCLB
I still have the OEM rear bumper on for right now with the hitch that sticks down, as well as the OEM exhaust that also hangs down significantly on the passenger side.

I really do not want an AM exhaust, but do want to chop the OEM exhaust off right above the rear axle and eliminate the last hanger.

Are there any disadvantages or dangers I should be aware of to cutting the exhaust like this?

Some people have reported an exhaust smell from fumes circulating under the truck. Some guys do it and never notice anything ..

I can appreciate the look, it's definitely less cluttered. I personally wouldn't since I carry the doggo in the back sometimes

Thanks for the reply. Seems on par with what I have found so far; the guys that have rigs that sit up a bit higher don't seem to notice much, or anything at all.
Not sure if it makes a difference cutting the exhaust with an OEM height truck or not.

I would think a truck lifted a bit like mine would not have much of an issue with fumes, but I honestly didn't know.

The vent for the cabin is between the bed and box and is more likely to induct the fumes.

If you have cats, its not really that dangerous, but far from ideal.

I tend to discourage this mod unless clearance is an issue. Which means you need to modify the stupid low hanging cross over pipe as well.

I've scrapped the OEM bumper covers multiple times as well as pushing the TRD exhaust up into the black plastic trim piece directly above the exhaust.

While this is technically a clearance issue, it has more to do with departure angle clearance vs overall clearance of the truck. Stock cats are and will remain in place (garaged at all times).

No issue. Did mine years ago ahead of the axle on both the stock exhaust and a second hand Pro exhaust.

    Be prepared for the drone........

Have it reconfigured but I'll never do an exhaust dump under a vehicle again. It gets old real quick.

    Thanks for the replies all!

Mrmmmmm, not heard of anyone experiencing a drone after cutting.....

Is/was your truck stock or lifted when you cut it?
Did you cut it behind the rear axle on an OEM exhaust?

The drone is always rather common with any truck having an exhaust dump under the bed at the axle

FWIW, I installed the MBRP turndown catback (which cuts off right before the rear axle) about 7 months ago, and I have yet to notice any smells or have any issues. I've done a few 5+ hour trips and haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

I have my exhaust cut right after the rear axle. No issues whatsoever and no drone. This is where mine’s cut

Well, that is a bit disappointing.

I want the clearance, but we do spend a lot of time on the highway getting to dispersed camping sites, so a long harmonizing drone would not be good.

    I'm contemplating cutting mine.
Getting rid of 2 more bends in the exhaust will help improve flow.

    Enough for now
Cut mine right after the axle and added a tip for aesthetics and to ensure the direction of the exhaust is how I want.

No drone or fumes, and if there is extra sound I can’t notice it over the sound my snorkel, intake tube, and lack of fender liners creates.

This is how I would do it. Got a tip and everything. Heh. Is it much louder than stock? All aftermarket catbacks seem loud af.

Mine definitely drones a bit, but I don't mind it personally. Maybe see if you can find a stock exhaust from a junk yard, cut/swap it, and see how you like it?

Probably not the most ideal but worse case scenario it could be spliced back together. Or take the end you cut off to a shop and have them flange the end. Then clamp it back on.
Someone need to make a quick adapter for that....patent pending. :)
