So I got a brand new 2023 in black. It had some scratches from transport and two side by side that ran up the rear passenger door about 8-9 inches, just in the clearcoat very shallow not deep at all and could only see at the right angle. I asked dealer to fix before I buy. They did but the problem is whatever they used to fix the scratches left like a 1 foot haze/milkiness in clearcoat/paint you can only see in the sun at the right angle and of course me being an idiot didn't notice until I got home the next day. I called them and they said bring it back to "fix". Yeah okay I see what your fixing is like, I am going to try to do it myself first. I am going to pick up a clay bar today, would a polish help as well? I called and asked what they used and i was shocked to find they jumped all the way up to mcguires ultimate compound, on a brand new fucking truck, for their scratch removal.

Dealer should fix this I know but I dont trust the bastards, everytime I went with my old truck something else gets scratched or scuffed. Also is this something a different dealer would fix? I know its the responsibility of the dealer I bought it but I just dont trust them. Its obviously haziness in the clearcoat and nothing I could have done scratch/damage wise. I know that last part is a pipe dream on another dealer but crazier things have happened. Any other product i could get today that could help? Just looks like they used too much of the UC and didnt clean/wipe away properly but water and a microfiber didnt help.

Edit- Let me say, everyone told me not to get black and that it shows scratches like crazy, that is an UNDERSTATEMENT, I legit have had the truck parked in the same spot for two days indoors, i have been looking at this same general area and I didnt notice a new scratch, a new scratch literally just happened out of nowhere. Im sure someone brushed against it or something but damn it blows my mind.

Find a big puddle and splash through it a few times. Truck is now dirty and the paint problems solved because you can’t see it well enough.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Quit fighting with the dealer, go find a good detailer and pay a bunch to go over the truck entirely. Then park it in a garage and never look at it again so it stays fresh.

Not this dealer, not any dealer cares about this problem. They've already sold a truck, why would they?

Doing anything to it yourself will get them off the hook. So you have a decision to make here.

Clay bar does nothing to remove scratches. Clay baring preps the surface by removing inbeded contaminates from the paint surface. If the scratches/hazing is minor i suggest a product like ...

Chemical Guys COM_129_16 VSS One-Step Scratch and Swirl Remover Compound Polish, Works on Cars, Trucks, SUVs, Motorcycles, RVs & More (16 oz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001TJIDF0

very minor but also a "large" area like i said about a foot or so but not super cloudy but enough to notice and annoy me on a new truck

Black is the toughest color to maintain perfection or even 85% perfection with. (I've owned 4 or 5 various marquees).

Take it to a well know quality detailer. Let them debadge it for you, correct the paint and seal or ceramic coat it.

Then have them show you how to keep it fresh.

I am not worried about the scratches as much as the milkiness left over from the compound they used.

3D ONE, Koch Chemie one cut & Polish, or if a chem dudes fan VSS or V36+V38 will help with the milkiness plus haze that will eventually come from just washing the truck.

Im a fan of 3D ONE. Very easy to use with a DA polisher and orange and/or white Lake Country CCS pads depending on level of correction.

I’ve had a number of black cars in the past and investing + learning how to paint correct kept them looking great. Alternatively a good detailer visit once a year can do the same.

I've had one black vehicle in my life. I have had over 25 vehicles in my 45 year driving career. I like white or light color now.

Do like someone else said . I’ve owned several black cars . Good detailer and then decide if you want to ceramic coat or not . I will tell you a few things . After the detail
1- always wash by hand , make sure you rinse first and use a microfiber sponge and good car soap.
2- when you dry try and use air or at the very least use a microfiber waffle towel
3- make sure you keep the paint waxed .

Now if you decide to ceramic coat the paint will stay much nicer . Black is a very tough color to keep looking top notch. It shows everything .
But when it looks good there’s nothing better .
Light colors have the same defects but you can’t really see them .

    Black is beautiful, baby!

I really do like that Turtle Wax ceramic spray stuff. It works well.

I doubt you can get the cloudiness out by hand. I had a black Mustang and it drove me nuts. I would suggest buying a DA buffer and watching some YT vids on how to buff.
