    Hey everyone

wife and I are stuck at a gas station north of Denali in AK. Driving up to Fairbanks. No issue. Pull over to get gas. Turn truck off. Turn it back on and it will not shift out of park. Brake lights work.

    Any thoughts on quick fixes?

    Thanks!

Find a couple guys to rock the truck back and forth, maybe the parking pawl is stuck

I didn’t engage the parking brake so I’m hoping that’s not the cause.

I know this doesn’t help you BUT I ALWAYS PULL the parking brake THEN put it in park before I take my foot off the brake and shut off the truck. It keeps the weight off the park pawl. Just an fyi for the future.

Beautiful drive, made it last week. Don’t let this issue overshadow the trip. I haven’t lived up there for two decades so can’t recommend any mechanics, but there might be something in the Alaska region forum.
I can tell you to to avoid university chevron as they’ve been ripping off my grandma for years…

parking pawl is in the transmission, has nothing to do with the brake, so you rolling now?

was it just this one instance, or does it do it every time?
I would think if once, you had it bound up, probably not fully stopped and putting the truck in to park a.k.a. soccer mom stop.
