    Hello all, I'm new here
In short, my 2006 Tacoma is stuck in 4Lo and will not come out. I have checked both actuators and replaced the ADD, measured voltages from the ECU, checked grounds, and checked timing between both actuators. I can hear the transfer case actuator motor start running but after a couple seconds it times out and the rod that goes to the transfer case doesn't move. I have also tried to manually put it into 2WD my moving the transfer case rod but it does not seem to want to budge. Any help will be appreciated

Thank you so much, I've heard that the 2006 transfer case has some kind of detent in it that stops the rod from moving without the actuator, is this correct?

One tip if you try to manually move the rod with a mallet again - chock the front wheels and keep it in neutral. The less tension on the drive line the better. In fact may even lift the read end off the ground so you can spin it by hand just a little. Assuming the add is disconnected..

Also @Dm93 is the master. He'll give you some pointers and direct you to his big 4x4 diagnostic thread I'm sure

You should be able to move the rod.
The detents are actually part of the 4WD position switches.
There are also lock pins. But that’s making this more complicated than it needs to be.

Point is, the shift rod should move without the actuator motor mounted.

Study the diagrams and operation in the link I posted above.
    You’ll understand better then..

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I am thinking you forgot to mention trying the old school method of backing up first.

That has enabled me to get all my vehicles stuck in Low range free over the years .

It does not take much torque bind to hang them up in low range.

    Good Luck.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
I was waiting to see who recommended this. My dad's old GMC pickups in the 70s required backing up to unlock. The way it was.

I've gone through pretty much everything that Dm93 has posted in that thread and its still stuck. I have backed it up and gone forward many times but to no avail. Is there a way to check if the shift rod is completely stuck without taking the trans case off?
