I am a new owner of a 2018 SR5. It has 31K miles and runs great....I love my truck. I want to take "good care" of it. I read in one of the other threads that each injector has it's own "fuel filter"?? Is it recommended to add a fuel additive to clean the injectors? If so, what is the recommended brand. I am familiar with Lucas, Sea Foam, STP, etc....Thanks

I know techron is popular for general fuel system maintenance. Not sure how much it does for injectors specifically

+1 for Techron. I use it as well.
According to the prestigious internet when the dealer offers a fuel system cleaning it’s one of two things. Hooking a pump to the fuel rail and adding some kind of cleaner. OR adding a bottle of Techron or similar to the tank and sending a kid to the gas station to top off with premium.

For what they charge I’ll just go do that myself.

Techron and Redline SI-1 are both very good products.

Welcome to Tacoma World......... This subject has been discussed here on TW several times.

I'm interested in hearing from long time Tacoma Gen 3 owners on their MPG. I recently have had a sudden drop off in MPG. I ran a couple tanks with Lucas injector cleaner through it, but not much help. I changed the air filter and nothing. I have 68,000 miles on my 2018 and I'm only getting 17mpg on the open road. Once in a while if I rev the motor to 7000 rpm for a minute the MPG goes up for awhile. This is my 4th Tacoma and has the worst MPG of all. I've heard of Fuel pump issues. After watching the prior Video I am going to try running tectron through a few tank fulls, but looking for suggestions and anyone experiencing similar issues

My experience is one or two tank fulls does the trick. How is your other maintenance? MAF clean? Throttle body. Spark plugs. Did you change anything else recently, e.g., larger (heavy) tires.

Thx for the quick reply. I put Falken Wildpeaks on 3 years ago and immediately noticed a drop, but it has been steady at 22-24 until now. I've done nothing other than change air filter, lucas, standard oil changes. based on what I've been reading, I will manually check mileage with gallons vs. what computer states, but my feeling is the mpg has dropped. I may try new plugs. I changed them once on my 2010 nd it took a while and was a PITA.

If you run top tier gass such as Chevron, Shell, or BP, you may have no need to add anything to your gas, as these have an additive already in them.

I was having an issue with my truck surging, in gear, on cold starts. Used Lucas in a tank of premium and it completely cleared up what ever was going on after cleaning MAF and throttle bottle had no effect

If you were getting 22-24 you've done better than I ever have. A lot better.
I have Wildpeaks as well and am getting 17-18.

BP isn’t Top Tier anymore. Not sure why.
