That’s what got me. It’s a mixed blessing for certain!

To be honest, I have regretted quite a few of the tools I’ve bought over the years, I tried being frugal and bought inexpensive tools, only to be disappointed by the quality and how poorly they did the job. My Festool collection is stupidly expensive, yet there isn’t a single tool I regret buying in the least, they have been that outstanding.

You guys are high enders for sure.

Anyone have a lower cost biscuit joiner?

Yeah I have the harbor freight one. It sucks imo.

    Biscuits suck all together.

They provide no strength at the joint, and they are sloppy enough that the ol’ alignment reasoning is void. Even for spline joints can be done with other tools.

    You mean no tensile strength?

I would think they add some shear strength

Like if you were gluing up panels for like a table…it wouldn’t add strength to the glue joint. The glue itself is stronger than the wood.

I have seen inexpensive loose tenon jigs out there. They would offer much of the functionality of the Domino but at a fraction of the price.

So the biscuits themselves fail. I can see that.

Biscuits or dominoes in a long grain joist just help with alignment during glue up , thats about it , the long grain glue joint will be stronger than the wood around it

This is what I’ve always been told my my grandfather who built mindbblowingly beautiful furniture his whole life.

biscuits are literally just for alignment as the glue dries. Makes it so the boards to bow or flex until things dry up. I know that’s always my concern when gluing long boards

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
All I can saw is just use one. I've got the dewalt orbital and the festool ets 125. You wouldn't think one sander works better than another but the festool kills it. I actually enjoy using it and look forward to it.

Oops. Almost twins. Not sure what happened to the second shelf? Good thing they will be on opposite sides of the bed.

They also really helps keep things aligned, we only have a limited time before the glue starts setting. Hint titebond III gives you a longer set time then the original

Looks like that plus another 1" to make sure.

The joinery looks excellent. Almost like the forest and trees. Micro v. macro detail.

I was not going to post the picture last night, but decided this is not YouTube and I felt that showing how projects sometime don’t work out perfect was more honest.

I just straight up made a mistake! This is definitely not the worst one I have ever made, but a noticeable error. I could go buy 25 more board feet of Alder and remake it. I would if I was actually charging someone for this work. Since the “customer” is my wife, I am going to finish both and keep them around as a reminder not to overlook basic details.

The first table was inside. The whole neighborhood had to hear me yell when I put them next to each other.

Now cooler heads have prevailed. I am going to learn from my mistake and move forward. Going to put finish and legs on both today. Then, move on to the next project having learned yet another good lesson.

Don’t be afraid to mess up. It happens to everyone!

So what happened exactly? Hindsight being what it is, where did your mistake stem from?
