Looking for some advice on my new lighting system.

I got the Diode Dynamics ditch lights and fog lights. When I got them installed and back from the shop, my mechanic has told me that since they have backlights, they will be on any time the truck is running. So I have the backlighting for the fog lights and then the ditch lights on at all times. When I turn them on fully they get much brighter, which is fine.

My question is whether there is a way to use the controller unit to turn them all the way off when I want that, then just use the backlights if I want, and then when I need them, turn them all the way on. Not sure I can drive around town with the ditch backlights on at all times, but I can see many reasons I'd want that setting available.... The option I was given was to cut the cord on the backlight and then it would just either be on or off......

Is that just the way it is based on the lights I bought?

    Appreciate any suggestions here!

Did they wire them by an add a fuse in the fuse box?

what controller unit? as for the backlight, its just a wire, so you can wire them all to a simple switch to use them when you want.

Is the 8-gang Multi Light controller from Rough Country. Seems the backlights to the ditch lights are somehow connected to the fog lights as they are on at all times. I cannot turn them off. I like the option of having the backlight if I want it, just not at all times. I would like the option to use the backlight and then the full ditch light when I want.... My backlights to the fog lights and marker lights also now go on at all times and I cannot turn them off.....

As has already been stated, the backlight feature is just an extra hot lead on each pod. Sounds like your mechanic just wired them all in to an "ignition on" circuit. It would be just as easy to wire it to a separate switch on your switch panel. That way you could run the backlight on either set of lights whenever you want. I have the backlight feature on my DD SS5's wired into my parking light circuit.

So did you just not hook up the backlight T-Tap then? Was thinking I also don't care to have the backlight feature, so I just was thinking of taking out the extra length of wire and filling the plug with a silicone sealant.

I did a three way switch to have the backlight, regular light, and off options.

I have Diode Dynamics SS5s on a chase rack. My shop wired up the flood lights and back lights on separate switches on my 6 channel box. Thankful they did it that way, so I can have them on whenever I want or don't want.
