My 4x4 has stopped working on my 2002 Tacoma. When I put it in 4wd, the acuator gets warm, but it doesn’t move. I figured the fork was stuck, so I removed it, and still same thing. It gets warm but the fork doesn’t move. Mind you, this acuator is new. Is the acuator itself bad ? Is it not getting enough power to move it ? Any ideas are appreciated.

Only one way to know break out the meter and check your voltage.

Did you go with Toyota part or After market actuator ? If it does not move when the correct voltage is applied I would think the actuator never worked out of the box.

The fork moves free when disconnected?

Poor connections tend to make things get warm.

    Good luck!

It’s an aftermarket acuator…. Do you know which pins to test on the plug ? I’m assuming the red one gets power, and maybe the white one with the black tracer is ground ?

You got the manual J pattern or push button tcase?

When you referred to actuator, are you referring to the tcase or tube? My best guess is you're referring to the tube because the tcase actuator will need to be disassembled to replace.

If you replaced the tube actuator, make sure you align the fork in to the slide gear in the tube. If not, the front will not lock.

    White /Black should be ground.

How many different wires are in the plug ?

I only have the 2001 Ewd sure enough to be different .

02 hilux. I have the j pattern. And yes the tube actuator. So when I installed the new actuator I thought that the fork wasn’t aligned, so I pulled it out and the fork still doesn’t move when I put it in 4wd. I can hear a clicking sound coming from right under my 4wd shifter.

Bivouac, I’ll look today and see exactly how many wires there are.
