My first time using Hipcamp - we planned to stay 3 nights, but cut it short by one night due to the thunderstorms in the northeast.

We went 1000 miles thru NY into Yonkers (pretty area, though the smoke from Canada was enough to make nothing viewable as we passed over the Washington bridge), then up into Connecticut for our first night.

Next day we drove through Mass into NH and across to York, ME. Again, smoke made it seem foggy.

To sleep we stayed part way through NH, at a farm in Deering. It was a beautiful night next to a loud burbling creek, and over looking pasture land. Before bed, we decided to cancel our third night near Swan Lake, NY - due to the thunder storms. I'd read rain was supposed to start in our area by 8am. We woke, thankfully by seven just as the first drops were falling. We got the bedding sorted and mattress folded and everything boxed-up by 7:15. By 7:30 it was real rain. By 8a it was torrential-at-times. We dodged a bullet.

While driving out - we drove over a culvert with a wooden pipeline under it. The wood had reached enough and let-go in several places.

From there we drove to see a few "roadsideamerica.com" sights: Oldest operating post office in the USA, and a house/shed covered with license plates. Benefit - saw this guy out fishing near this spillway/dam thing.

Boot scooting south, we stopped at the highest point in Mass. That's normal fog, not smoke. :)

One more stop down to Bethlehem PA to see the steel - but first a random muffler man in NY.

Was an incredible trip - and one great outcome - other than the memories - I'm down to needing only to visit North Dakota and Minnesota to have set-foot in the 50 US states. :)

Thanks Eric - was a long-haul to get home yesterday. In part because we generally 'Avoid Highways' as we explore the world :)

Looks like a good time. Was hoping to get insight on how your topperlift handled some wet weather

Thanks! I've been out in the rain with it before; our sole reason for backing out of night 3 was because of the pups. If it were muddy/wet/rainy, they'd have been stuck inside the truck bed (with us); and carried the risk of a muddy/wet-dog smelling night if we let them out very much.

When I've been out in the rain with it; driving rain - some water can hit the sides and run down the canvas, then thru the velcro and into the truck bed. But because I'm up about 8" on a platform nothing has been damaged or annoyingly-wet.
