Happy Independence Day to you all!

I'm changing it up a bit this year.... Just put some lasagna in the smoker.

Ribs, smoked deviled eggs, sugar snap peas, and a garlic mashed potato pancake.

My only note: A full hour is too long for the deviled eggs. 20-30 minutes should do the trick.

If you are up to it, next time try applesauce...it sticks better.

You do kind of have to rinse the pulp off at the end though.

Nothing special, upset that my treager doesnt work well anymore on low temp settings. It does great for anything above 300° but temp fluctuates too much when trying to smoke, will start rolling coal then settle back down, scared to leave the house if its running. I am in love with lump charcoal and will probably get rid of the treager and get an offset smoker.

I've always been a charcoal guy. 22" WSM and Weber kettles have always fit the need. Still would like to learn an offset.

Does one type of charcoal work better than others for a smoker setup?

Starting to research the charcoal and different wood chunks now.

Short answer yes. But it’s not the heat or calorific value you’re after, it’s all about the Smoke.

I'm just gonna toss this out there.... If you use a cheap crappy smoker/grill and get similar results, what do you think your opinion/experience will end up being about smoking food?

If you want to get into smoking using charcoal, you should check out a Weber Smokey Mountain or an Ugly Drum Smoker/Pit Barrel Cooker. All those I mentioned won't break the bank and can deliver some great smoked food. Shit, a Weber kettle grill could get the job done as well.

Again, just offering a different angle to approach this from. Don't give up if the Dyna Glo ends up not being a good fit for what you wanna achieve.
