They always taste best on the grill. Actually we are doing cheese steaks for dinner :D

Been to Berlin a few times Tom. Beautiful little town. Filmed "Runaway Bride" there with Julia Robert's and Richard Gere. Had lunch at the hotel on the main street.

    Evening all:

That's interesting Tom, and why not! I saw a bunch of factory 409's, but after the 427's came out in 1966 it seemed like the 409 went the way of the dodo. I only know of a single local car that anyone built that had a 409 in it, and I have mentioned this before, prior to 1966, around 1963 or 1964, I knew a guy who put a 62 "09-09" in a 56 or 57 Vette, that little sucker ran pretty good!

Big body big blocks are pretty rare. There is a 68 Impalla SS feature in this months Hemmings Muscle Machines. It was built in Canada!

We had a beer at Burley Oak brewery and a pizza dinner at Burnt Oven Pizza across the street, then watched the fireworks from a lot next to the brewery. Parked in the brewery parking lot around 5pm and left around 10pm. I really like Berlin, MD, a pretty nice small town that is well kept up and has events that are family/community orientated.

I have always wondered how a big block N/A against a newer high performance N/A car in a 1/4 mile race would fare.

Good morning. Back from the gym and off to a music lesson for today.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/celebrators. A belated Happy Birthday America too! We had a quiet day yesterday, no plans to speak of. Mowed the grass again, cooked up some ribs, watched the 4th stage of the Tour de France. It ended on a race track, which is a lot wider than most of the roads they usually race on. There still managed to be several crashes right at the end! Made no sense.

I'm pretty sure a modern N/A engine would eat the oldster's breakfast. Fuel injection, electronic ignition, much better metallurgy, etcetera and so on.

    Morning all:

If you took the "stock" biggest and baddest cars from yesteryear, and ran them against todays biggest and baddest cars now available, I doubt the old muscle cars would even have a chance!
Most of the fastest "stock" Super Stock street cars could turn in the 12's with slicks, blueprinted in the 11's, I keep up with the new Dodge Deamons, in 2018 they produced one that turned 9.65 140mph in the 1/4 out of the showroom, the 2023 version is capable of 8.91 151mph out of the showroom.
I'm sure the new 700-800 hp Corvettes and mustangs would also be able to kick butt since the old top of the heap Super Stockers maxed out at around 500hp, with a very few (L-88, Z-L1, and 426 Max Wedges) supposedly somewhere between 550 and 600hp.
The 2018 840hp Deamon is totally street able, I don't think the new 2023 with 1,025hp can even be registered.
I could be a little off on my observations, but I think I'm at least somewhere in the ballpark, NOW, if you supercharged those old motors with superchargers like those new ones are wearing, they should easily be able to compete with them if not beat them, apples and oranges comparison when it comes to supercharged vs non supercharged!

I spent the Bicentennial (07041976) in South Korea. 1st Signal Brigade 36th Signal Battalion. I mean, what are the chances of spending the most important celebration in the Nations history, 7K miles away from home. I was 20yo at the time. To this day, even with all the other soldiers in the Company, I can't forget how isolated I felt. After that the 4th has never felt the same.

    Carl,
Several years ago I talked to a guy at a show who had a '67 Impala 427 SS Convertible. 4 speed, AC,hidden headlights. Marina Blue/White top.
He was the 2nd owner, bought it in the late 70's when he was in college in the Mid-West for some insane amount of 1800 bucks.
He pretty much said the car was as rare as teeth on a hen.
Wish I packed the camera that night. Never ran into him again.
Impressive car, never seen another one like that.

I only saw one 67 that "HAD" a 427 in it, when I saw it it had a replacement 396 in it, darn hood on it with that single centered chrome insert would probably be worth more today than the whole car cost new!
Come to think of it, I only saw one 427 convertible, a red 1966 Impala SS with a white interior and a white top, don't remember if it was stick or automatic, but it had the L-72 in it. The guy was from Ohio and in town doing something at the phone company, often wondered if that car survived and is still around, that car was gorgeous!

A Jeep couldn't hold a candle to that vehicle, then or now, in off-roadability. And yes, I wish I still had that LC. I bought it new in 1976 for $5700. Couldn't find one in running condition today for 3X that.
