I will offer that you need a new AC company / technician.

I live in a 4 yo building that 30 units were all installed by the same company (of course) and when problems arise, the techs from that company often can't find the problem, or it takes a really long time. And their work is kinda messy.

I've suggested a company I've used at multiple locations to some of my neighbors, and they always find the problem quickly. They are also an authorized service provider for the unit brand, so warranty parts are not at issue. Just like cars, you're not required to go where you bought it. (where the builder bought it in this case)

    Best wishes for resolution.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Will talk to new tech from a different company coming out tomorrow to diagnose the issue hopefully they can give an answer and solution . Worst time of the year to have to deal with this with temperatures rising to 113f .

So the HVAC tech came out and diagnosed the issue as the zone board malfunctioning . Here’s the real kicker so price to replace the board 1700 dollars … part only costs 189 bucks .. they basically charging me 503 bucks a hour for a 3 hour job . I’m utterly disgusted by this price to fix a 189 dollar part . Will definitely doing this job my self. The ac company that is charging these outrageous prices is Goettl . The tech was great but will never use this company for repairs .

Diagnoses should have been one hour or actual time + show up fee. Parts tend to be 2.5X wholesale price in the industry. One can replace the board, test function and check temps [as long as the split is good, no reason to crack into the system] in less then an hour easily. Cost should have been about 1/2 depending on prevailing hourly costs.

Do you have a zoned heat cool system? A two ton unit is pretty darn small for houses that need actual zone heating/cooling.

A lot of time can be wasted when you get a unit that works ''sometimes.'' You have to run it/shut it down/run it until it fails and then check electrical. Sounds like the A/C relay on the actual furnace board failed, not a zone board. They aren't very expensive for most goodman units unless they are the type you need to set up with multiple micro switches. $75 wholesale is pretty common for a goodman control board.

The delay is normal, short on start up, longer on shut down as the system tries to scavenge the remaining heat [furnace] or refrigerant cooling effect. Not to long though as it will start to put the condensation on the A coil back into the house. Most run 15-30 seconds.

If a reasonably new stat then there should be a delay built into the A/C side to prevent hard starts due to the compressor not having both low and high side pressures equalized. 5 minutes is pretty common.

FWIW, if the blower inside kicks on and no 24v is going outside to the compressor, a simple 24v test at the board [typically R/W 2 wire run to the contactor outside] would quickly isolate the issue to inside or outside.

And make sure your drains are open, the 24v can be interrupted if the drains/overflow sensors detect water.

It’s a 3 ton system … some reason I was thinking it was 2 from my last house .

Seems like a good place to ask since it home HVAC topic.

I have some coil cleaning solution but there is very little room to get at it through the access panel. I have a general purpose garden type sprayer but what i need is a nozzle that is at 90 degrees to the spray tube so I can actually point it at the fins. Any ideas???

The evaporator A coil in furnace. The next note shows a low pressure garden sprayer just like mine but need a nozzle that is truly at 90 Degrees.
