That basketball bump had me thinking of a school project had where I made an air gun. Pumped that baby up to 200 PSI to shoot a ping pong ball. Was it safe? Probably Not. Was It fun? hell ya!

So, coolant hoses are on my brain this morning. Truck will hit 100k in a few days(!) and wondering if these should be done as preventative. Looked in the forum and seems there is no consensus. Thinking of getting fancy silicone style hoses. Pros cons from experience here? Do the thermostat at the same time or just wait? Any experience with the Mishimoto coolant vacuum pump? Should I put all this anxiety away and just drive it? What says the Wisconsin hive mind?

I'd be more concerned with age and higher mileage when considering replacing hoses. IMO, at 100k and with your vehicle being less than 10 years old, not necessary...but I'm not a mechanic.

From what I've seen, silicone hoses don't seem to last long.

I mean it's your truck. You can replace things if you want... But none of the items you mentioned are known failure items. Even at high mileage.

I would save the coin unless you're in there and see something brittle or cracking. It really doesn't need to be pulled off and replaced. Although at 100k would be worth it to replace your coolant... Use the Toyota SLLC pink stuff.

I agree with these comments. I'm replacing mine hopefully soon if I stop being lazy at 125k-ish, but that's only because I'm also doing the water pump (it's had an on-again off-again squeak for quite some time). Figure since I'm in there I don't want to do it again later. If I wasn't doing that I wouldn't be changing them. Silicone hoses probably aren't worth it, don't buy into the hype. Toyotas are known for lasting a super long time - why fight against known good quality parts?

Thermostat and housing are the exception. I doubt you will have problems keeping the original, but for as cheap and easy as it is to replace I'd call it cheap peace-of-mind insurance if you want to do it.

I have that Mishimoto vacuum kit but haven't used it yet. Seems to be pretty good quality. Do you absolutely need it? No. I only got it because I have multiple shitbox vehicles and work on other people's cars too.

100% dump and fill the coolant like Cygnus said.

Thanks-I was hoping you would chime in. Did the coolant at 70k, so its not ready just yet. Wait... okay I can do that.

Yea... have the water pump noise off and on as well. Notice it most in the winter-go figure. Since no one is like freaking out other than that I seem to be wasting money I will wait. Blue hoses? Thought they would look cool. Do they last? Well, the consensus is the Toyota ones do...

I am a born and raised central WI boy who has lived in Colorado for the last 24 years. I typically spend three weeks or so in Central (Wausau) and Northern (Lake Tomahawk) WI every Summer. This summer I will be in the area between 7/15 and 8/5. I am an authorized KDMAX Pro Tuner and will be available for new and update (Pro 10.0) tuning appointments while I am in the area. I know there are not any pro tuners that are close and would love to help out anyone who wants to experience the KDMAX difference.

I will also be in the UP (Houghton area) the weekend of the 22nd traveling from Lake Tomahawk via Ironwood.

I am looking forward to the lake time and to possibly meeting some WI Taco and 4Runner owners.

PM, Email or Text if you have any questions or would like make a tuning appointment.

    :D

Yeah the pink coolant is good for some serious mileage and abuse

Hard to beat OEM, but colored hoses do look nifty

Supported. Y'all need to get on this. Manual AND auto, 3rd AND 2nd gen, Taco, 4Runner, Tundra... Erbody
