I spent the weekend trying to understand what a "CA spec" truck is. Some old info comes up but my interpretation of modern Toyota trucks sold in US is that they are all "50-state" (annoying gas vapor recirculating canisters, unnecessary secondary air pumps)
Now don't get me wrong, I know being from California has become a synonym with "annoying" (at best). I often go out of state to visit Free America and, especially in recent years, I have been really thinking to move, but that is besides the point now; I imported vehicles before into California. I am just curious to understand what is exactly different in a CA spec Tacoma because it's not very clear to me.

California emissions hasn’t been a thing for decades.

Because of California’s strict standards and the overall size of the state, all vehicles sold in the US for the past 30 years at least are compliant.

If you’ve imported vehicles into California, then you should probably know that it’s perfectly legal to do so and you won’t have any problems registering it if there haven’t been any modifications to the engine, emissions, or ECU that aren’t approved by CARB. And that list is getting shorter and shorter each year.

So, in other words, you should probably undo any of those modifications unless you want a headache.

I just bought a 2012. Tacoma in May of this year, this truck is my first automatic after 5 trucks with manual transmissions and I got to say I'm impressed with the pulling power. I pull a 17 foot Bigfoot trailer.
    Go with an automatic!

So, it happens that I am moving to Texas, Houston area. @Squatting Pigeon , can your dealer help me out there? Manual Tacoma in "Electric Lime" color would be the ideal...
