It’s unpredictable when you have no indication it’s there and are releasing the clutch to catch you from rolling backwards and then you don’t. Then everyone around thinks you don’t know how to drive cuz some hill start was there holding you.

also every system has different releases. The Subaru one is purely on a timer I believe.

 

BMWs are on a 2 second timer after releasing the brake pedal.

 

My (automatic) 2011 RAV4 engages the hill assist brake if you press the pedal all the way to the floor when stopped and releases if you press all the way to the floor again, wait ~10 seconds, or touch the accelerator pedal. I thought it strange they didn't have that on a much newer manual Tacoma. It's fine because I can still use the parking brake with the button held in and it isn't required very often.

I can see why they added it to the 2024 after removing the manual parking brake. Weird that it's a button as I found the pedal control intuitive to use.

 

New tundra's have it on the pedal and they also have the auto stop start thing on the pedal. Basically there's a way to position the pedal so it doesn't do the auto stop start. I don't remember the details because the stop start stuff is just stupid but here we are

 

I'm glad my OR does not have hill start assist. One more reason not to want a 4th gen.

 

Even the automatic ORs will roll back on a hill. I checked

 

Doesn't seem to be one on my 2004 MT 2wd Tacoma. That's O.K. as it was easy to unplug the switch at the clutch pedal and put a #6 size spade terminal into the plug to bypass that whole system. Clutch Start Cancel all the time and no light.

 

Just got my URD kit in the mail. How bad is the install?

 

I have always been a MT guy. I lucked out last year and was able to find my pro with a six speed. I just recently added a 22 OR Auto to the collection to use as a work truck (just because it was available at the time) and I can confirm. Automatics still suck

Its not that there is anything wrong with the auto itself. I just don't enjoy driving them, especially off road.

 

If you are mechanically inclined, then it pretty easy. The front two bolts are under the floor a bit, this was the hardest part.

It took me about an hour farting around to put it together.

 

Thankfully 4lo limits my speed....

 

yes very mechanically inclined. I’ve done several in the past on other vehicles. All have been fwd though. Hour doesn’t sound too bad. I haven’t looked at the instructions yet. Can’t wait to see how it feels.

 

A stubby wrench helped to get at the front bolts and sealant to got between the the spacer block and the shifter base is needed. I reused the factory gasket under the spacer and Loctite Flange sealant for the top.

 

For anyone who has done the s2000 accumulator type delete, do you have a small section at the top of the clutch pedal travel where there is no pressure at all. I didnt notice it before the delete but then again I never depressed the clutch with my hand before bleeding the clutch.

 

I do. Got used to it real quick and once in a while I think about it. But then I just pretend it's normal. As an affected anything negatively in the last 60,000 miles so...

 

Thanks for the confirmation. I did the acc mod a few weeks ago. I noticed the free play when bleeding the clutch with my hand. It is much less noticeable when depressing the clutch with my foot but I figured I’d ask. Thanks for the response.

 

I let him get stuck in some wyoming red mud. Then let him play with 4low. Using the locker A-trac...

He claims, this is his college truck. Probably true. It will be 8 years old by then. I'd rather him take the PRO then the 91... That's going to be one hot little pickup when we are done.

 

Hey everyone. New '23 TRD Sport M6 owner here. I've owned 8 vehicles in my life over 30 years driving and all were manual. Glad I can keep the streak alive with this truck. Looking forward to the accumulator bypass mod and getting some truck tires on it. Count me in as not liking the hill-start assist, would have preferred an OR anyway, but beggars can't be choosers when manual is a requirement.
