Honestly I’m surprised at the numbers considering pricing .I would take the Toyota over any other vehicle in its class . Great looks and resale value . Yes the truck has some issues here and there but compared to other trucks in its class it’s pretty dam reliable .

"Truck with 2 production facilities beats out trucks who share production plants with other models"

Even with a level playing field I think Tacoma would lead in sales, but lets not forget the other trucks simply cannot produce enough to even compete with a 2 plant truck. GM twins share their plant with the full size van and the Ranger shares theirs with the wildly more popular Bronco. If I'm a Ford exec. I don't even make the Ranger, double down on Broncos like printing money.

To be fair, basing your perception on this board can be very skewed thinking. The majority of owners aren't members here. Furthermore, this also tends to be the place where people bring their issues to discuss or figure out. For everyone with an issue, there are many times more without said issues or who don't view the issue as a big enough deal to care.

When I first came here, 90% of the "problems" could be boiled down to one of a few things, in my opinion:

-the user came from a full size truck (V8 no less) and were expecting way too much from a midsized V6 truck.

-the user gets new vehicles every 3 or 4 years and gets nitpicky over little things.

-the user is not used to more modern vehicles at all and proceeds to complain about things that are normal in modern cars, but will blame the truck. Extra gears in the transmission comes to mind. That one was not unique to Toyota though.

Nailed it. At the end of the day, the Tacoma just *works* (vast majority of the time, anyway).

    I'd also throw in

I could swear I see more Mavericks than Rangers around OKC...

This is exactly why many Toyota dealerships continue to tack on market adjustments....because they can and people still line up to buy Tacomas.

I suspect there's also "fear" about the lack of V6 option for the 4th gen. Especially when you consider every other mid-size truck other than the Ridgeline is down on sales.

Sales for that are well above last year and are nearly that of the Jeep Wrangler. That's not even counting the Bronco Sport sales. Q2 for the Bronco was over double Q2 sales for the 4Runner, which is down by 11k from Q2 last year.

It's all about supply and demand. Do you seriously think that, if the demand (that's you...the customer) increases for, let's say the Ranger, that the supplier (Ford) would not increase the supply? Of course they would! The reason Tacoma is built at two plants is that the demand is big enough to justify two plants. If the Ranger had the same demand as the Tacoma, it would have two dedicated plants too!

You guys. Do you forget that the Fords, Chevys and Toyotas of the world only exist to do one thing...make a profit. I know I know, in today's world they like to confuse you with advertising but in reality, they only want to sell more vehicles to make more money. It's very simple. Companies are not stupid. They will not spend money to make more Rangers if the demand is not there.
Demand always comes first, then supply tries to catch up. When they can't catch up the price of the product increases! Seriously, econ 101.

Right now, as I type, Jeep execs have royally fucked up. They somehow miscalculated the demand for their little Jeep Renegade. There is currently a FIVE HUNDRED AND FOUR DAY SUPPLY of those things sitting on the lots.

This forum can be a hilarious place. The public never does what this forum tells it too.

“Hey you guys!…….we told you to stop buying this truck! We told you it had issues!!!! Hey stop, stop, stop buying theses trucks! Why aren’t you listening to us!! Haven’t you heard the automatic shifts funny?! Haven’t you seen these torque curves?!! How about about um, um, this other stuff?……

From a production standpoint you can't produce more than what the capacity of the plant is. Either you take production from the Bronco (not happening), or spend billions to make a dedicated plant for the Ranger (not happening). Ford will continue to pump their rookie numbers, and F-150 sales will be most important and all that matter. Same reason Toyota will always suck in Tundra sales, those numbers are terrible! You think Toyota cares? Not as much as you'd think.

It's DEMAND that drives the CAPEX spending required to increase production. Demand. Trust me, if the demand for the Ranger was stronger, Ford would spend the money to produce it. Same with everything, from potato chips to rubber dongs.

The GM twins are in between models right now , will be interesting to see once the 24 GM midsize is out and then the comparison of sales. I had the ZR2 and was a very cool Truck that drove well , just was showing signs of not holding up

More trucks than last month sold, I think some of the earlier months of 23 saw better numbers. Can't be many more 3gs being built, I don't know how sales will look for the rest of the year. How many people will purchase a 4g allocation to put numbers on the books?

Ford sold 12,000+ Rangers last month. I don't believe any other month broke the 9k mark. Same thing as Toyota, how many people will be plunking down cash on a 6g Ranger order to get numbers on Ford's books?
