Hey guys new here. Wanting to know if a 4” lift will give me enough room for 33/12.5/20. Is anyone running this set up? Is there enough room? Is there rubbing? Thanks for the help.

    Hi Ronnie, welcome.

The toyota IFS has about a 3" maximum lift before you get very bad wear and very bad ride quality( no downtravel). Also lift in itself does not clear tires because when the suspension is fully compressed the tire will end up in the same place.

Check out tinkerers adventure on youtube. He has great videos to understand common myths about these trucks.

Not trying to be an ass here, just providing info for you.

Thanks I really appreciate it. I am new to the Tacoma world and really just like the look. Don’t do off-roading just a street truck. I am hesitant to get a 6” lift because my wife is very short. Lol

No problem I am quite the opposite. I have skinny 33's with about an inch of lift. What I said about ride quality is something you will notice on the street too. Shocks do not like topping out all the time.

I have the 2-2.5" lift and cleared 305/70/16 Goodyear Wrangler MTRs which is about 33"x12" I have Total Chaos upper control arms so no rub there but I got lots of rubbing on the frame at full lock when reversing. A body mount relocation would have solved that but I don't want to chop into the frame. I just downsized to 285/75/16 which is around 32.8"x11.3" and no rubbing at all now.
Like @TacoTuesday603 said above, you don't want to go above 3" in the front. You can add a small 1" body lift on top of a 2-3" lift for a little more clearance but then your bumpers won't sit flush with the truck. If you look at some posts here lots of others will hammer out the pinch welds/wheel wells, relocate or chop the body mount, install aftermarket upper control arms, or add spacers to clear 33"-35" tire.
Also check tire calculators because some tires run larger or smaller. Most 33" tires are actually tall 32s which will fit better and some are true 33s.

What do you mean by clear? How did you check this?

Have you factored in what the god-awful weight of a 20” rim on 33s might do to the wheel bearings and other aspects?

I had them installed on my truck for 5 years. Just replaced them with a slightly smaller tire yesterday.

If your truck is a 2wd then 4" knuckles/spindle lift will clear 33's if the correct offset wheels are used. Suspension down travel will be unaffected.
