Hi all, just picked up a 2023 off-road Tacoma.
Of course I can’t leave it stock!
So I need help with wheel off sets.
I’m looking to get the tire/wheel combo to stance out approximately 1/2” from the fender flares.
So I read a lot about negative offset.
    Example -6 offset.
Question is when looking for wheels does that mean subtract 6 from the factory 25mm?
I understand 0 offset would bring out the rim approximately an inch.

A 0 offset is the best stance/performance on these trucks as far as I'm concerned. Go any more and you start to increase bearing wear and run into more rubbing issues if you decide to chase a larger tire size.
    That's a 17x9 0 with a 265/70r17 on it at stock height

I would suggest looking up some diagrams that explain wheel offset. When searching around this forum you will see that most people seem to discuss wheel offset without even mentioning the wheel width. When you are trying to figure out where the inner and outer edge of the wheel will sit when mounted up, you MUST consider both of these measures. Notice that Veet-88 above likes a 0 offset with 9" wide wheels. Keep in mind that will place the outer edge of the wheel further out than a 0 offset with 7" wheels (factory width). So if you want a similar arrangement to his, which looks nice, btw, you can't just focus on the offset measurement.

Also, there are some really good offset calculators that you can search for and use. Just enter your stock dimensions, and the calculator will spit out some useful info for figuring this stuff out.

Chances are (depending on wheel width) 0 offset will line your sidewalk up with the fender.
-6mm the tread path will likely line up with fender and sidewall will poke out maybe 1/4".
    265/75/16 on stock wheels +25mm
Used 1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers to give -7mm(-6.75)

    I appreciate the information.
I’m going to take my time and make sure I do it right the first time.

I wasn't sure what to expect on my truck so I went with spacers to see how much poke I would get vs. buying expensive wheels that I was unhappy with.
Now I know what -7 will be and if I choose to get new wheels. Now I'll know what offset I want. (I like -7)
Good stance. Better cornering. Doesn't kick rocks all up the side of your truck.

wheel offset alone means nothing. a 7 wide wheel with -20 offset sticks out less than a 9 wide wheel with 0 offset. offset just means how "offset" the mounting surface of hub is from the center of the wheel. backspacing is a more important measurement imo because if you cant clear the upper control arm then your screwed.

I find it's a bit of a thing on here, hyper focus on 1 aspect be it a lift or offset rather than taking in the big picture.
To clarify why width is being thrown around as well now is even if you take a 17x7 0 vs a 17x9 0 that 0 degree offset remain dead center of the wheel but that wider wheel will still sit out an additional inch further.
So as was mentioned using a spacer to get an approximate stance prior to buying a wheel is good but only accurate if you keep the exact wheel width. Going to a 17x9 -6 will result is a wider stance by an inch.
Last thing I'll touch on is staying to a common size such as a 0 or -10 will allow you alot more options for wheels there are quite a few in a -6 but it is far more obscure

Here’s a handy calculator to “see” the difference between one wheel and another. just input stock info and compare to what you’d like to go with and get results that can help you measure if they come to where you want your wheels to be.

Recently picked up a set of 4th gen Runner limited OEM wheels >17" 7.5 ET30 going to be installing 265/65R17 Nokian hakkapeliitta 10s on my 2019 Tacoma sport stock suspension. All my research has suggested that they are the exact same specs as the stock wheels for my 19 sport... however i did purchase 1.25 Spidertrax spacers for all 4 corners of the truck to get the "poke" that i want the combo all said and done should give me a -5mm offset . This set up also changes my back spacing from 138mm to 103mm , I am worried about rubbing . I located my 1.25" Spidertrax from Amazon are they legit ? With the stock tire size you should be fine I ran a 0 with a 265/70r17 on a 9" wide wheel without any issues. Worst case you may tap a mud flap on occasion but not likely
