Synthetic oils and freshly manufactured engines don't go well together when it comes to ring seat. It takes a lot longer to seat the rings especially if you granny drive the truck, they may never fully seat well. Takes good cylinder pressure for good ring seating. If you want the best engine performance, use a dino motor oil on a new engine till it's broken in.

Okay so I did my first oil change and maybe I was wrong about thinking the oil looked fine lol. It looked yellow on the dipstick but my sample says otherwise. This is weird…

yep I’ve been following that thread as well. Reached out to the guy to see if his situation improved after changing the oil but no response yet. Called the dealer today and they gave me the “it’s normal” response, but agreed to take a closer look at it if the black stone test shows something is off

Oil should not smell like fuel. Definitely report it to Toyota and have it checked by them to maintain your warranty.

    Yeah.
Yeah, I went back and scrolled to the end after I posted that and saw that you had already found it (good job using the Search function, lol).

I honestly don't check the oil much on my truck, just change the oil annually (I do about 6k miles per year). I haven't noticed any funny smells. I added a catch can, and what it catches looks clean.

Same deal as similar posts, and predictably, you are receiving reasonable but often contradictory opinions. Ashamed to admit that I am just a little disappointed that we haven’t seen a “Part it out” comment….Yet.

You’re probably fine, but it’s like googling “sore elbow”. The results you get will range from minor tweak to certain death…For peace of mind, report it to your dealer, get a sample checked out, good to go.

When I got my first Toyota truck in 1981 all my master tech buddies used to say, how's your engine doing with all that " fish oil" in the crank.:) My how things have changed. On a serious note OP, send a sample off to Blackstone and have it tested. At the very least it'll give you peace of mind.

That looks completely normal for lightly used engine oil. Nothing weird about it at all.

You would be completely freaked out if you had a diesel. Your oil looks good for a few more miles.

I would think it would look a lot lighter for only being 1.6k miles old.

You are way overthinking this, but as mentioned, if it helps put your mind at ease, get the oil tested.

LOL. When I changed the oil in my freshly built 462 Pontiac stroker after 20 minutes to break in the cam it looked about like that.

    I think you're good.

The people telling you it's not normal are also the people that have never done an oil change.... :anonymous:
