    Hello,

I may need to transport my 2019 SR5 Double Cab 5 ft bed Tacoma over a fairly long distance (approximately 700 miles). It’s not feasible to drive the truck that distance (we have 3 vehicles that need to get from A to B and only 2 drivers). I did a quick google search and it seems like all of the main (uhaul/penske/budget/etc) auto transport trailers are too small to hold my Tacoma.

Is anyone aware of good options? I have a 22 F150 with a 3.5 eco boost so towing the truck is no issue. It’s really a matter of finding a good trailer setup to rent.

    thanks

Will you be coming back? I actually loaned my trailer to someone on TW to move a car from the Seattle area to Colorado, I think it was. I had never met or talked to the guy before, but he was active on here and was asking about the best trailers to rent. Can't hurt to ask in a local TW thread. I just made sure to take a pic of the truck and trailer leaving. His license plate number, and a pic of his drivers license. He actually wrote up something saying that he was liable and whatnot and signed it and gave it to me on pickup. I didn't expect that, but that was cool.

I'd check UShip, I had a quote of $180 to transport my CTS-V from San Antonio to eastern Oklahoma. I don't think I could've rented a trailer that cheap especially with the diminished fuel mileage.

I had a similar problem when I moved from Vermont to Florida and had to bring my F150, Harley Electra Glide and the UHaul moving truck down and there was just me. I drove the F150 towing the bike in a UHaul trailer, parked them, returned the trailer, flew back to Vermont, and drove the moving truck down. The airfare was around $300 which was cheaper than any other options, and it was a fun road trip. You might consider driving your truck to Colorado and flying back.

Trailers always sell well, you could purchase a good used one for the trip and probably sell it for about what you paid when done with it.

I hear about this quite a bit. Seems a viable strategy. I know some people have bought cheap and sold higher in the area they move to due to low inventory. 700 miles might not be far enough for that, though.

The u-haul car trailer is big enough for a 2019 Taco DCSB. Hauled my Taco from GA to TX with it.

Thanks for all of the responses. It sounds like I have a few options to look into.

Was your truck pretty much stock? Their website says it won’t fit on there. I’m assuming it has to do with wheelbase and vehicle weight. I have a very heavy Tacoma so I was a little worried when I was reading the specs.

    That’s something I didn’t think of… I suppose that’s an option. I’ll price stuff for sure.

I’ll be coming back after a few weeks. I do have a buddy that has a construction company. I’m assuming he has a trailer big enough for a taco. It may be worth asking.

My biggest hope is that the Uhaul option actually works out. I’m eager to hear more from nds0000 on the details of his move.

This seems to be one of the easiest options, in an already hectic time in ones life. PLUS, I have heard of people taking this route, having some oh shit! things that didn't fit in the maiden voyage, that can be hauled on the final trip, and having another trip to close up unfinished biz/pleasure.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.

For a 2015 DCSB, it was uncomfortably big enough. I rented a truck and trailer same day to tow a car but trailered the truck back to the house about ten miles. U-Haul guy said it'd be close, he was right.

If you get to a last resort. Do you have somebody that could road trip with you?
Either from where you are going or leaving and a plane ticket return?

I wish but the truck may or may not be drivable over that distance even if I did. I have what seems to be a pretty serious leak somewhere between the transfer case and the cv axle on the passenger side. I’m just now investigating that. The shop that did my regear and locker install a few years back is in an area my wife and I like to vacation. I was evaluating the option of taking the truck along on vacation and dropping it at the shop to get it looked at if it comes to that. I haven’t had the time to really dig into what my issue is yet. This is just me kind of contingency planning some different options.

Ahhh now the full picture comes to light.. LOL.
    Yes that changes everything..
A UHaul or borrowed trailer does seem to be your best solution.

Lol yes there is always more to the story. I was just trying to figure out the transportation side without having to go into all the backstory about the potential leak since I haven’t been able to pinpoint the issue yet and haven’t talked with a shop. I was trying to examine the feasibility of moving it before even bothering the guy several hundred miles away with my questions haha.

U-haul may not rent you a trailer if you are honest with them.

    The auto transport weighs 2210
    Estimate your Tacoma at 4400
    Total 6610

Per U-haul the tow vehicle must equal or exceed 80% of the combined weight of the trailer and vehicle on it.

    6610 X .8 = 5288

Look at the door sticker of your F-150 and see what your curb weight is.

:gossip: ...or tell them you are hauling a Corolla...

The vehicle fits on top. What does not fit is the Tacoma towing the trailer with another vehicle on top.
My Tacoma was stock, but heavily loaded with moval goods.
