So I have a stock 2005 Double Cab Pre-Runner, right now I have 16 rims and basic tires, I want to get 17 inch Black Rhino Armory Rims and Falken Rubitrek mud tires. I was originally going to get a 2 inch level kit also but decided against it to save money, my only concern is that will adding an inch on the wheels and adding the mud tires cause rubbing problems or something like that to my wheel well??

if anyone has done something similar do you think that would work with out the level kit? the measurements on the Falken tires are 285x70x17.

As long as you're willing to cut both the cab mount and trim some plastic on the front bumper nearly anything is possible. That said... 285/70/17s in a mud tire on stock suspension is going to rub. A lot. Even a 2" level is going to rub a lot due to the offset that you'll have to go to with the Black Rhinos to clear the UCA. So keep that in mind. Either don't get so big of a tire, or be willing to cut. That guidance comes regardless of whether or not you decide to lift.

Also, shameless plug... But we can get you those Black Rhinos here at Hotshot Offroad if you haven't picked them up yet :spy:

So if you look in at your tires on the front of the truck look at where they would hit first if the tire was twice the size. It'll be directly in front of and directly behind the tire. If you shoehorn a big tire in there it will contact at those points. One way or another you have to move that material out of the way or else you won't have any turning radius or suspension articulation since there will be things in the way not allowing the tire to move about in the wheel well.

Would you think it would be the same case if I went to a tire with measurements of 255/65/17? Would that be possible with the 17 inch rims?

265/70R17 would likely fit fine too. May have minimal rubbing on back mud flap area but can heat up and push out of the way or trim a smidge. Results may vary based on offset
