Workers never break anything - "it just quit" is real popular.:annoyed:

I had workers bring in electric tools so hot that you couldn't touch them and say "yeah, it was working fine and then some black stuff came out, it started smoking and it just quit".

Even better (at un-plausible deniability) are fork truck drivers:

driver (on phone): yeah, we got a (fluorescent) light out down here -- dunno whats wrong
    I go down to department
driver: can you put bulbs in it -- dunno what happened to em'
me: No, the eight foot fixture is 6-1/2 feet long bent in a V
    driver: dunno what happened
me: you are sitting on a fork lift, the light is 14 feet in the air, the floor is freshly swept
    driver: dunno...

    Warehouse workers:

worker (on phone): yeah, we got a door that won't go down -- dunno whats wrong
me (at scene of crime): looks like the forklift hit (as in destroyed) the door track
worker: dunno who did it :notsure:
me: there are only 3 of you out here and one forklift
worker: well, it wasn't one of us...

It is funny, many times over the years we (maintenance) have commented that we could write a book.
Unfortunately it would only be funny to other maintenance/trades people.
    "Normal" folks would be o_O.

Over the years I told a few bosses I just go visit people the fact work gets done is just a by product.:anonymous:

If normal Folks could do what maintenance guys did, they wouldn’t be normal anymore either. They should be grateful.

    Much appreciated :hattip:

I had to do my monthly drive down to the mothership in Concord this morning. Rained the entire way… the 3-4 lane closures made for congested traffic more than ever on the early morning drive.

    I think northbound isn’t as constructiony :D

And the forecast radar looks like most of the tropical bands are sliding north along the VT border, should make the drive back uneventful (I hope..)

Gonna pat myself on the back here and share I got a handshake and a thank you today after a weekend of some very sensitive work. That's definitely more than I usually get. It feels good to have the work you do be appreciated.

Carry on all. At the doctors now, I've having some elbow pain. We'll see soon.

It is always good to be appreciated for your job skills . That some seldom get recognized for that level of performance every day.

Thinking about this far to many have never had to learn any trouble shooting skills.

It comes down to plugging into the system and firing the parts cannon and hope you get the correct part.

One has this magic Box why should I read and research to find a problem when someone will do all that work and tell me the answer and what to do.

Like anything else there are always those that break out of pack and are quite different.

This was a topic discussed quite often during the coffee and donuts part of service calls.

Since my kids were little (30 and 27 now) I had a rule with them:
"You can come to me with any problem you have, however, you have to provide a solution, in your mind, that would work."
It made them think and made them analyze the problem and come up with a solution. I also knew they would need help too.
You would be surprised how this cut down the amounts of complaints they had about everything from boyfriends to biology.
They would tell me their problem, then their solution.

Now now now, maintenance only has a job if:
    • Marketing promotes it
    • Sales sells it
    • Engineering designs it
    • Operations produces it
    • Shippers ship it
    • Maintenance maintains it
That little story is cross divisional lol. Nobody would have a job unless everybody did their part and somebody did it right and anybody could mess it up but nobody did.

    Agree.
However on the factory floor maintenance is always a handy scapegoat.
