I went to Moab to do some light wheeling. I ended up on Golden spike and with some custom bent bumpers! But, it was worth it. Awesome trip!!
Front bumper was easy. I Liked the AllPro Apex and for the money it was an easy choice.

On the rear... there are not many choices for a first gen Tacoma. I liked the coastal bumper. But for the money, you are still gonna have to build the bumper!!! So being a tightwad on some things, I thought I'd try and build it on my own. I knew if I didn't cut the rear off, I'd never would start. I cut the bent panels off and there was no turning back after that.
Motivation is committed. Started with a trip to the metal shop, I bought a 10 foot 2 X 6 stick that was 1/4 inch thick. As well as a 10 foot stick 2x4 that was a 3/16 inch thick. This cost $174.
Then I bought the 4xinovation spare tire carrier kit and that was a $140. tried to center tire carrier. but was blocking the A on tacoma. Wasn't gonna work so moved to pass side.
had a spare spindle from converting over to hubs. so cut off the shaft and used is as my wheel mount.

Nice fab work. My son put a unit like that on his 08 and the spare is on the passenger side also. Does the spare visually block alot of view? Are they always on the passenger side?

Nice! Now plate your rear frame sections before they get wonky from the swing out

Not sure how you did the corner radius to under bedside attachment, however, if you just butt-welded them, I would highly suggest some additional reinforcement there, as well as an additional front attachment for the under bedside slider. The goal in both suggestions is to reduce the amount of leverage when weight is focused there.

I was not considering a rear bumper tire mount but now low key am due to having some spare hubs :anonymous:

Check out 4xinnovations DIY Parts here: https://www.4xinnovations.com/DIY-Parts_c_13.html They have some real nice affordable parts that will save you a ton of time. @OP looks to have spent a lot of time cutting that hub down, so ~$30 bucks to get a nice laser cut plate is way worth it IMO.

Finally got around to adding the quarter panel guards. Also added some plates under the corners to tie them together. just overkill. but, feel better about it. and added a bolt on receiver hitch to carry the Grom with. bought a bike carrier. then cut it up and rebuilt it with an extended 1/4 thick 2x2. so I could clear the rear spare. also cut out the spare tire crossmember and added another receiver hitch. to help with the leverage of the bike weight. we are planning a Colorado trip and taking the groms.
