    Funny I also have the cordless DeWalt 20VMax sander and that guy is super super handy- bought on a whim really. I end up using both sometimes.

    Yes
    You're talking about the black hose end into the clear hose end? I'd wrap a few wraps of either duct or electrical tape on the end of the black hose and keep checking slip fitment. Enough wraps to get it snug. Or you can do what @woodtickgreg suggested and just insert and wrap the whole thing in tape. Wont make disassembly easy if you go that route. Or there's a 3rd option, 3D print a custom adapter. Maybe Rockler or Woodcraft might have a solution that works for you.
