Dunno so much about shallow vs deep but one 12 actually has more surface area than two 8’s.

theoretically, 8's are supposed to be quicker, as there's less moving mass per voice coil. reality? any decent quality 12 is just as quick.

    This a is great forum.

Just bought a 23’ Tacoma Double Cab SR. On my list to get a full system installed. Looking at 5 Star Car Stereo in Clearwater, FL to do the install once we price out the build. I’m a bass head, so hopefully I can get something very clean and loud behind the back seat.

Previously had a 07” Tacoma Regular Cab and Ran 3 10” Kicker RT off a kicker multi channel amp back in the day. That thing sounded so good. Way better that my Charger setup that had with 2 JL W6s.

I just installed the Kicker CompC ported 10 (the 2 ohm model, 44TCWC102) and the Kicker CXA400.1T amp. It sounds really good so far; I'm surprised how loud it gets and how hard it hits to be such a small box. It fits with the plastic bin removed and the plastic seat back panel removed, although I think it'll still fit with the seat back panel installed.

Edit: both the plastic storage cubby and the seat back plastic panel must be removed for the seat to close.

This is good to know, as I've considered doing this a handful of times instead of building something custom...

Same here; I bookmarked a ton of threads here and pics of other people's builds, but could never seem to muster the motivation to build something. This more than meets my needs for now, so I feel like I can take my time deciding if I want to build something down the road.

Did you have to mod the box at all? I’m looking at this or Gately. Thanks!

I’m just getting my system components right now and having a hard time understanding the ohm ratings. I have a Kicker CXA 800.1 amp and going to be paring it with a single 10 in sub for now. The problem is I don’t understand the difference between (for example) a 2 ohm dual voice and 4 ohm dual voice. If I’m going for sound quality over volume, my understanding is that the bigger the number in ohms the better the SQ. That being said, a lot of people recommend wiring the sub at 4 ohm instead of 2 ohm if you’re going for SQ but would that mean that wiring it for 8 ohm would be even better?

EDIT: Basically I’m looking at these 2 subs but not sure which one would fit my needs better

the answer to your questions is 'sort of'.

the short answer-- i'd go with the 4ohm dual version. i would suggest wiring it parallel for a 2 ohm amp load.

the longer answer is that every aspect is a tradeoff. though for subwoofers, you're really not going to notice a clarity difference so much as the human ear has difficulty hearing distortion at lower frequencies like that.

generally, the higher the resistance, the higher the sensitivity of the speaker, which makes it more 'efficient' in terms of using the wattage entering it, but the higher the resistance will have a lower overall output of the speaker--meaning that if you were to have a 2, 4, and 8 ohm setup all with the same sub and amp, the 2 ohm will be the loudest, the 8 ohm will be the quietest.

the confusing part here is that there's really 2 separate parts coming together. the amp will see a 2 ohm load. but because the speaker is a 4 ohm, it has the higher sensitivity.

if you wired the sub as a single-voice coil 4-ohm load, the amp is only going to put out 300w rms because the amp sees a 4 ohm load.
car audio gear doesn't ever post 8 ohm gear ratings, as no one does it, but generally, they're half the 4ohm rating, meaning this amp would only be good for about 150w rms @ 8 ohms.

by running the dvc 4 ohm version, you're having the amp output the 600w rms into what's essentially '2' subs with 1 cone--300w rms per voice coil. it's effectively making the subwoofer louder while also more efficiently using that power than a straight 2 ohm setup.

In more layman’s terms, dual 4 ohm coils are often ideal for a single sub and 8 ohm for two. Once you get to 3+ you have to really plan it out. But it’s nice and easy, if an amp is stable at 2 ohms which many are, to wire everything in parallel. Takes a lot of the thinking out of it.

If the voice coils come in 2 ohm versions that definitely gets complicated unless you’re specifically using an amp stable past 1 ohm

How did it come out? What did you use for a LOC or did you use an aftermarket radio?

I went with an aftermarket Kenwood head unit , so far I’m pretty pleased with it. I also removed the plastic backing on the back seat. I’m still in the getting everything broke in phase I just added some kicker 6x9’s in the front doors before I start cranking it up. IMG_0329.jpgIMG_0375.jpg

Hey all! So I have a 2022 Limited with the birdseye camera. I will need to relocate the camera module somewhere to install my ********* sub box.
. Anyone do this? If so where did you move it to?
